The invention consists generally in vari'- ous constructions and combinations, all as hereinafter described and particularly pointed out in the claims. I
In the accompanying drawings forming part of this specification, Figure 1 is a plan view of the frame of the tie embodying my invention, Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view of the same, showing the strap inserted through 'the frame, Fig. 3 is a similar view, .with the loose end of the strap removed from the frame, Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the frame, Fig. 5 is a similar view of a portion of the strap, Fig. 6 is a perspective view showing the tie on a package of letters.
In the drawing, 2 represents the frame, preferably rectangular in form, having a centrally arranged cross bar 3 on which the upright stud 4 is mounted, provided with a horizontal projecting end portion 5. This stud or post forms the tongue of the tie. At each end of the frame I provide rails 6 corresponding in form to the ends of the frame and formed integrally with the side rails of the main frame. A space is provided between the' ends of the frame and the rails 6, through which the strap 7 having one end permanently attached to the end rail of the main frame, is inserted. The loose end of the strap is provided with a series of loops 8 secured at intervals thereto, the bars of these loops lying close to the under surface of the strap, as indicated in Fig. 2. These 100 s may be formed of suitable material, suc as narrow metallic tongues, the ends of which are thrust through the strap and clenched, while the middle portion or bars of the loops extend transversely of the strap in position to interlock with the end 5 of the stud when it is desired to fasten the strap around a package. I prefer also to provide a spring device 9 having itsends mounted on a side rail of the main frame and its intermediate portion curved preferably and lying close to the stud 4 and adapted to bear on the loop 8, with which the,

To use the device, the strap is placed around the package, the loose end inserted between the rails 6 and the ends of the main sutliciently tight the hooked end of the stud is inserted into one of the loops, the spring 9 being pressed down, and when the stud and loop are interlocked the sprin will hold them in cooperating relation unt-i such time as it is desired to open the package.

I claim as my mvent1on:
1. A package tie comprising a frame having a. cross bar, a hooked stud mounted on said cross bar, a strap having one end attached to said frame and provided with loops adapted to receive the hooked end of said st (1, and means mounted on said-frame and adapted to contact with the underside of said strap and normally hold it out of engagement-with said hook when the strap is drawn through said frame and prevent accidental disengagement of the hook and loop when the package tie is in use.
2. A'package tie comprising a frame and cross bar, a hooked stud mounted on said bar, a strap having one end attached to said frame and provided with loops adapted to receive the end of said stud, a spring device adapted to engage said strap and prevent accidental disen agement of said strap and hook when the evice is in use, and also op.-. to hold said strap out of contact.
