Be it known that I, F RAxz A. FULLER, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city of Newark, county of Essex, and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Match- Boxes, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters of reference marked thereon, forming a part of this specification.

The present invention has reference to improvements in that class of match boxes especially adapted for the reception of small packages of safety matches, made of cardboard, and such as have been in extensive use for advertising purposes, and which is of such'a form that it is well adapted for advertising purposes, inasmuch as the advertisen'ients may be placed or embossed in any suitable manner upon the back and lid thereof.

The p *incipal object of this invention is to provide in the class of match boxes of the character above stated, a novel holding means extending inwardly from the side of the box body, adapted to partly overlie a packageot' matches, said holding means he mg provided with upwardly extending in tcgral guides for the lid of the box, and downwardly ext nding lugs for holding a springactuated catch in the lower end of the x, and a spring-actuated catch located in the lower end of the box having locking engagement with the upper end of the lid.

The invention consists therefore, in the novel construction of the match box hereinafter set forth, and furthermore, the invention consists inthe various novel arrangements and combinations of the parts, as well as in the details of the construction thereojt', all of which will be fully described in th following specification, and then finally embodied 111 the clauses ot the cla m.

f represent lugs also formed and comprises a box body a and a suitably hinged lid 11 of substantially the same shape and dimensions. These parts are of such shape asto lend themselves readily to manufactureby the use of suitable punches and dies from ordinary sheet metal.

The box body a along its longitudinal edges 0 and c near the front thereof is provided with integral holding means (I and 11 formed in the blank from which said body is made. The combined spring and catch member 9 is formed from a.-single flat piece of metal as illustrated, the ends'ot' the spring being clamped between-the narrow space formed by the downwardly extending lugs and f of the holding means I! and (Z', and the front edge of the box body flange.
