Description
-J. M. PEHRSON.
, HOOK. APPLICATION FILED JAN. 30, 1911.
Patented July 16, 1912.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOI-IAN MARTEN PEHRSON, OF STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN.
HOOK.
T 0 (iii whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J OHAN MKRTEN PEHR- SON, a subject of the King of Sweden, and residing at Stockholm, Sweden, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hooks, of which the following is a specification.
The fastening of lines to a hook, eye or similar article is generally accomplished by the line or rope being laid around a thimble and the free end fastened by means of splicing, screws or by casting fast or jamming tight the line in such. All these methods of attaching the line or rope to a part of a machine possess the disadvantage of requiring experts and special tools for performing the work, besides which they take a comparatively long time for doing it.
The present invention refers to attachment to such parts of the machinery by which the line or rope can be fastened to the respective part of the machine without any difficulty and without the use of any tools.
The invention consists in the respective part of the machine being fitted with two walls, between which two projections are ar ranged, one of which serves to hold fast the line, which is laid around it in the form of a loop, while the other serves as a support for the end of the line, so that it is held tight between this support and the pulling part of the line.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing in forms of construct-ion.
Figure 1 shows one form of construction in a vertical sect-ion. Figs. 2 and 3 illustrate a modified form of construction seen from two different sides.
Generally speaking, my invention comprises two walls indicated at 1, spaced apart by a web or webs of material indicated at 3, and a looping pin, or pins 2, either formed integral or removable between the walls of the hook or machine part. Additional Specification of Letters Patent.

machine, which here consists of a hook, and are separated by a web of metal against which the end of the line is pressed, while the pin around which the cable is looped, is indicated at 2. In order to confine the pulling part to the hook, the walls are connected by means of a web 4 so that the line is inserted below the web 4 and twisted around the pin 2, after which the end of the line is inserted under the pulling part of the line so as to be held tight between the said part and the web 3. By training the hook around the metal web 3 a maximum bearing surface for the rope or cable is attained consistent with the simplicity of the device. This ample bearing surface increases the resistance between the hook and the rope so that the latter is efficiently retained from being disconnected from the former, and fur thermore, is not subjected to severe shear ing stresses due to sharp turns in the rope.
I claim 1. In combination, ahook provided with lateral walls connected by a web forming the inner periphery of the hooked portions, a confining member and a looping member included between said lateral walls, and a rope or cable trained between said confining member, and said web, and looped about said looping member with binding action against said web where the rope or cable is held securely to said hook wholly by binding action, combined substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
2. In a combination, a hook provided with lateral walls connected by a web forming the inner periphery of the hook, a confining member adjacent to said web at the shank of the hook and a looping pin near the point of said hook, and a rope or cable extending between said confining member and said web, following said web, looped about said looping pin, and returned with binding action between itself and the web of the hook for supporting the same thereby, combined substantially and for the purposes set forth.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two witnesses.
JOHAN MZiRTEN PEHRSON.
