Fig.1.
ROBERT ITSCI-INER, OF STAFA, SWITZERLAND.
HONE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ROBERT ITSCHNER, citizen of the Swiss Republic, residing at Stafa, in Switzerland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hones, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention has for its object an improved form of hone comprising two stones of different grains or textures which are detachable in order to enable them to be conveniently renewed when worn out.
In the accompanying drawing illustrating the invention'z Figure 1 is an elevation showing one form of the improved hone, Fig. 2 a longitudinal section of the same, Fig. 3 a cross section, Figs. 4: to 6 are respectively an elevation, a longitudinal section and a cross section showing another form of construction;
The hone illustrated at Figs. 1 to 3 comprises two parts a and b, one of which is of finer grain than the other. The two parts a and b are connected by metal plates 0 which are connected to each other by screws d passing through apertures in the parts a and b,- said plates are provided with lateral ribs 6 adapted to engage with cavities f in the parts a and b. The cross section of these cavities f tapers inward and the sides of the ribs are correspondingly inclined in order to make a rigid connection between the plates and the parts aand 6, between which latter a certain small amount of clearance g is left.
When not in use the hone is kept, as usual, in a receptacle filled with water, which fills the cavities f and space 9 and when the hone is in use this water is flung out through the space 9, and keeps the hone and the tool moist.
In the modification illustrated at Figs. 4 to 6, the steel connecting plates 0 are not flush with the stone, but lie upon same and are bent over the ends thereof.
When one of the parts a or b is worn out, it can be removed for renewal by removing one of the screws cl.
What I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is z- 1. A hone, comprising two stones of clifferent texture placed end to end, said stones having cut-out portions in the sides thereof, securing plates having dependent flanges, said securing plates seated in said cut-out portions, the said flanges adapted to support the plates and form water pockets between the plates and the bottoms of said cut-out portions, and the adjacent ends of said stones being out of contact with each other so that a clearance is formed between the ends thereof, said clearance forming an outlet for said water pocket.
2. A hone comprising two stones of different texture placed end to end and having cut-out portions in the respective sides thereof for holding water, connecting plates holding the stones in an assembled position, the adjacent ends of the stones being out of contact with each other, the space therebetween forming a passage-way to allow the fluid to flow from the holder to the surfaces of the said stones.
In testimony whereof, I affix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
ROBERT ITSCHNER.
