Be it known that I, VILLIAM H. PLEAS- Anfrs, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Cripple Creek, in the county of Teller and State of Colorado, have invented a new and Improved Stovepipe-Retainer, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

Among the principal objects which the present invention has in view are: to provide a retainer of the character described which may be employed to hold in operative position a stove pipe section to prevent the same from shifting in the stove pipe hole provided in the flue therefor; to provide in a retainer of the character mentioned means for preventing the loosening of the holding devices therefor; and to provide the retainer with anchorage means to support other and connecting` sections of the pipe.

One embodiment of the present invention is disclosed in the structure illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which like characters of reference denote corresponding parts in all the views, and in which- Figure 1 is a side view of a stove pipe section having applied thereto a retainer constructed and arranged in accordance with the present invention; Fig. 2 is a detail view in cross section and on an enlarged scale, the section being taken on the line 2--2 in Fig. 1; and Fig; 3 is a detail view in perspective and on an enlarged scale, of the retainer'.l the parts thereof being separated.

As seen in the accompanying drawings, the retainer primarily consists of a bent wire having a loop 8 at the rear thereof, and at the forward portion the upturned or vertically disposed ends 9, 9. The parallel horizontal sections 10, 10 of the wire normally rest in the grooves 11, 11 provided in the clamp plate 12. vided with a hole 18 to receive in holding relation the suspension wire 19. The wire 19 is employed for the double purpose of suspending the lower or coupled section of the stove pipe and to prevent the rotation of the screw 1A after the same has been slet.

The operation of installing the retainer is as follows: The retainer is placed in the stove hole provided in t-he flue wall 21. The cap ring 20 is then placed over the retainer and in position to aline with the said stove hole. The pipe section 16 is then inserted through the perforation in the cap ring 20 and the hole in the flue wall 21. The clamp plate 12 is disposed below the parallel sections 10 of the retainer, the clamp 22 thereof extending between the said sections 10 to impinge upon the cap ring 20, as shown in Fig. 1 of the drawings. The operator now grasps the loop 8 and draws the same outward while forcing the clamp plate l2 and the clamp 22 against the cap ring 20. Vhen the proper adjustment has been arrived at the screw 14 is placed in position, and by means of a sharp blow the pointed end 15 thereof is driven through the wall of the pipe section 16. By turning the screw 1A the threads thereof form a registering or corresponding thread in the thin wall of the pipe section 16. The relative disposition of the pipe section 16 and the plate 12 is now fixed, and the thread of the screw let engages the tapped thread of the perforation 23 formed in the plate 12. The supporting wire 19 is then threaded through the perforation 18 in the head 17 of the screw 14, and is suitably wrapped upon 'a lower section or the butted section 24 of the stove pipe which carries the elbow 25. When the wire 19 is lplaced below the upper ridge 26 of the butted section 24 it serves to prevent the separation of the section 24C and the section 16 from the elbow 25. It further serves to prevent the loosening of the screw let.
