To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, JAMES ALLINGHAM, a citlzen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certainnew and usefuLImprovements in Adjustable Supports, of which the following is a specification.-

This invention relates to improvements in anadjustable support which may be used for various purposes, but it is more especi ally intended for a seat-carrying-bracket, ,and in the present instance-I have shown itin thedrawings and will hereinafter describe it as supporting such a bracket and in connection with a sink or similar vessel,

to the end, that a convenient and comfortable seat may be afforded for the use ofa person while using the sink in the performance of culinary or kitchen duties, such as Washing or sorting berries, preparing vegetables,

paring potatoes and fruit, and like work, or. when using a wash-basin for toilet purposes,

which seat, when not in use, may be turned on its support so as to occupy a position beneath the sink or Vessel and out of the way.

.Theprincipal object of the invention is to provide a support of the above-named general character, which shall be attractive in appearance, strong,'durable, efiicient, and of such construction that its parts. may be readily adjusted to suit certain conditions which may obtain by reason of the location thereof beneath'the sink or vessel and near the wall of the room. 1 p 7 Another important object of the invention is to provide an adjustable support which shall be of such a nature that its manufacture willbe greatly facilitated and the cost 'thereof diminished.

Numerous other objects and advantages of the invention will be disclosed in the subjoined description and explanation.

The reference numeral-10 desi ates the body or main portion of the uprig t part of the support, which is preferablyof the shape shown in the drawings and is mainly hollow, that is to say, it is provided with upper and lower cavities 11 and 12, respectively, which-are separated by means of a contracted and solid portion 13 just below an enlarged and partly spherical portion 14, which has at its upper portion a contracted part 15 to form-one of the bearings for the seat-bracket, as will be presently explained. The body 10 or main portion of the upright part of the support is'preferably cast, and in order to avoid the cost'and labor necessary I for drilling a hole through the solid portion 13 for the reception of the nipple 16 which has its lower portion screw-threaded, in the process of manufacture, Iprovidethe nipple 16 with cores 1'? and 18 to give the desired shape to the cavities 11 and 12, and float said cores in the molding-flask to the end that when the sand cores are removed the nipple of the solid portion 13 of the'body, which, as shown, is provided at'its upper end-with d ametrically disposed horizontal- extensions 19 and 20, each of which is provided with aslot 21 forthe reception of bolts 22 used for securing said extensions to depending lugs.23 with which some sinks are provided on their lower surfaces. a downwardly" extending neck 29 to fit in the upper end of the body andwith an overlapping top 30 which is tapered to rest on the top of the body and beneath the sink or vessel 31 which,1as is well known, are someinclined on their lower surfaces. By using this washer it is apparent that, by adjusting the member 25 and the coupling 26 on the nipple 16 to the proper position .the upper por-' tion of the body will be caused to firmly engage the bottom of the sink, and that as the washer '28 is beveled or cam-shaped it may be turned on the body portion 10 to the inclination of the sink. Securedto the wall or vertical sup ort 33 to which the sink 31 may be secure -and just below the latter is a horizontally extended bracket 34 which carries a screw-bolt 35 which is extended through a slot 36 in the adjustable arm 37 i which is provided: on its side edges with flanges '38 to form a guide-way for the bracket 34 so as to preventlateral movement thereon of the arm. ' the arm 37 is also provided with an openin 40 through which a bolt 41 may be passe for rigidly securing said end of the arm on said extension. Mounted on the reduced portions 13and 15ofthe body 10 are arms 42 and 43, respectively, of the seat-bracket 44, which has at. its outer end a ocket 45 to receive a projection 46 on one end of a section 47 of the seat-bracket, which section has at its outerend a socket 48 to receive aprojection 49 on the lower portion 'of the seat-50, which may be of the ordinary or any preferred construction. Each of the arms 42"and '43 of the seat-bracket 44 is made semi-circular in shape 'andisprovided on each side of said circular portionwith a transverse opening 51 to receive bolts- 52 for securing a. semi-circular clip 53 on each of said. arms so as to pivot-ally mount the seat-bracket on the reduced portions 13 and 15 of the body 10 of the support, which portions, together with the enlargement 14, will form bearings for said arms so asto permit the bracket to be turned to any suitable position. By providing the outer portion ofthe part 44 of the seat-bracket with a socket and the section 47 and seat 50- with projections 46 and 49, respectively, of cor- '25. and coupling 26, are located within the body member 10, which may-be of any ornamental design or shape, but preferably of that shown in the drawings, none ofthe means for adjustin the'support vertically or longitudinally Wlll be disclosed, and that a support attractive in appearancewill'be presented. Furthermore,'itisapparent that the'adjustable arm and bracket 34, as well as the means for connecting the upper portion of the body member to the sink shown in either Figs. 1 or 3-, will Serve to hold the body and its adjustable leg or member in an upright position against the weight which may be placed on the seat-bracket.

It will also be obvious from the foregoingdescription and disclosure of the improve adjustable support that it is'susceptible off considerable modification 0r variations in' the details of construction without material departure from the principles .and spirit of the invention, and for this reason I do not wish to be understood as limitin m self to the exact construction shown an de ribed 111 carrying out my invention in practice .;Having thus fully described my invention, what Iclaim as new, and desire to secure by Letters-Patent, is-

' 1.
