and to keep the nest free from lice and other parasites or germs.
One of the principal objects of the invention is to provide a nest egg whereby a germicide powder may be deposited in the straw or other material whereof the nest is formed.
Another object of the invention is to provide a nest egg wherein gerlnicide powder is contained so that it may be deposited in the nest by the movement of the hen.
With these and other objects in View, the
invention consists in certain novel features of construction, combination, and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and set forth in the appended claims.
In the drawing forming part of this specification; Figure 1' is a top plan View of the nest egg; Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view thereof; and Fig. 3 is a top plan View of the powder containing tube.
Like reference numerals indicate like parts in all the different views.
Referring more particularly to the drawing, the numeral 1 represents the shell which is cut off at one end and formed with an integral wall or partition having a screw threaded opening centrally therein. A cap 2 is provided with a reduced portion 3 having a circular recess 1 provided centrally thereof, said reduced portion 8 being screw threaded to screw into the threaded opening provided in the partition 5 near one end of the shell. The shell is hollow, as will be more readily seen in Fig. 2, and is pro vided with four rows of diametrically opposed perforations 6 through which the powder is distributed in the nest in the manner more fully hereinafter described. Provided in the recess 1 near the inner end thereof is an annular groove 7 The powder containing device consists of 5a tube 8 open at each end, said tube provided centrally thereof with four diametrically opposed circular openings 9. Formed at one end of the tube 8 are two integral Q tongue-like springs 10 which are adapted to engage the annular groove 7. Between the ;springs 10 and the openings 9 at opposite isides of the tube 8 are two indentations l1 fin the walls of the cylinder for a purpose to be set forth hereafter. A sleeve-like cover j 12 is adapted to adjustably fit over the tube i8, said cover being closed at one end and provided with four sets of openings 13 grad- }uated in size, said openings adapted to co incide with the openings 9 of the tube. The cover 12 is further provided with two sets {of indentations 14 corresponding in num- 1 her to the openings 13 in the cover 12, said gindentations being adapted to engage with Ethe indentations 11 of the tube 8 for the purpose of adjustably registering the openings 13 in alinement with the openings 9 of the tube 8.
The operation of my invention may be briefly described as follows: The cover 12 is fitted on the tube 8 so that one of the large or small openings 13 will be brought in coincidence with the openings 9, according to whether a large or small amount of powder is to be distributed in the nest. The tube is then filled with the disinfecting powder and adjusted in the cap by means of the springs 10 engaging the annular groove 7. The tube is then inserted in the shell through the opening in the partition 5 and the cap is screwed in place. WVhen the egg is placed in the nest any movement of the fowl in disturbing the egg will sift powder out through the openings and through the perforations 6 in the wall of the shell, thusdepositing the powder in the bottom of the nest. When the tube is empty, it may be readily removed from the shell and filled with powder for further use.
From the foregoing, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, the construction and operation of my invention will be readily understood.
It will be obvious that various changes may be made in the form, proportion and minor details of constructionwithout departing from the spirit and scope of my invention, as defined in the claims.
My invention is easily manufactured, is
strong, durable, and efficient for its purpose and will keep a nest free from lice and other parasites or germs.
I claim 1. A nest egg comprising a hollow body portion provided with a series of perforations in the wall thereof, said body portion having a removable cap at one end, said cap having a powder containing device connected thereto, a cover surrounding said powder containing device, said device and cover provided with alinement openings for depositing a germicide powder from said powder containing device within the hollow body portion.
2. A nest egg comprising a hollow body portion provided with a partition at one end thereof, said partition having a screw threaded opening centrally therein, a screw threaded cap provided with a reduced screw threaded portion adapted to screw in said opening, said screw threaded portion being provided with a circular recess centrally thereof, an annular ring provided near the inner end of said recess, a containing device or tube provided with integral springs for detachably engaging said annular ring, a series of perforations in the walls of said containing device or tube, a cover for said tube, said cover being provided with a series of openings graduated in size, said openings adapted to aline with the said openings in the tube, and means for adjustably registering the openings in the cover with the openings in the tube.
3. A nest egg comprising a hollow body said recess, a containing device or tube provided with integral springs for detachably engaging said annular ring, a series of perforations in the walls of said containing device or tube, a cover for said tube, said cover being provided with a series of openings graduated in size, said openings adapted to aline with the said openings in the tube, diametrically opposed indentations in the walls of said tube, indentations in the walls of said cover, said indentations adapted to engage the indentations in the walls of the tube for registering the openings in the said cover with the openings in the tube. In testimony whereof I afiix my signature inpresence of two witnesses.
