WHIST-COUNTER.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ROBERT BENNETT HUToHEsoN, of the city of Montreal, in the Province of Quebec, Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in lVhist-Counters; and l do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same.
My invention has for its object to provide means for indicating the honors held, in a hand of whist to enable them to be readily ascertained at a glance.
The invention may be said to consist of the combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and pointed out in the claims.
For full comprehension, however of my invention reference must be had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, in which similar reference characters indicate the same parts and wherein- Figure 1 is a perspective view of my iin-- proved game counter in use; Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the counter; Figs. 3 and i are respectively end and plan views of the same; and Fig. 5 is an enlarged detail sectional view taken on line A A Fig. 3.
This invention comprises a resilient clip in the form of an open ring b of steel, bone, or other suitable material of a width and circumference to fit comfortably on the thumb or knuckle of a card player, preferably the thumb of his left hand if he is right handed, as by such arrangement the counter is more conveniently manipulated and less liable to be disturbed when the player deals.
Attached to the side of the clip by solder or other means, is a plate c having thereon five or any desired number of hinged fingers CZ with disks e at their outer ends such fingers being arranged in a row longitudinal of the plate. T his plate may be metal or other material. These lingers are independently hinged in order that either one may be moved without disturbing the others, and the hinge connections preferably consist of a hinge-pin g fixed in bearingsv 7L fastened to the plate and the ends of the lingers being bent back upon themselves to form loops 7c inclosing and in pivotal relation with the pin while a spring consisting of a bent plate m Specification of Letters Patent.

secured at one side to the plate c by solder as at n or any other preferred means, eX- tends between the said bearings and beneath the looped ends of the fingers (Z, upon which latter it bears, thus causing sui'licient' friction between them and the hinge rod to hold the fingers yielding in vertical or horizontal positions as required. The disks c are made of, preferably, the same material as the fingers and secured to the outer ends thereof by solder or any other suitable means or may be made in one piece therewith. Marked on the faces of these disks are the symbols A, K, Q, J, and X representing the ace, king, queen, jack, and ten spot of a pack of cards. The hinge-pin g is cut away at intervals along its length to form shoulders z' against which the looped ends 5 of the fingers d bear, thus preventing the lateral displacement of the ngers.
lhen the player discards an honor heturns down the disk bearing the symbol representing such honor so that at the end of the hand it can be readily ascertained to whose credit the honors are to be scored. The score is apparent owing to the fact that the disks, when pulled down lie face upward, displaying their respective symbols.
Although l have described my invention as relating to the game of whistit may be advantageously applied to other games without departing from the spirit of my invention, and may also be used as an advertising medium, the advertisement being placed on the ring or elsewhere.
That I claim is as follows 1. A game counter consisting of a ring adapted to be worn on the thumb or finger of a player; a metal plate secured to the ring; a hinge pin carried by the plate and out away at intervals to form shoulders; a series of fingers rotatively mounted upon thc cut away portions of the hinge pin; disks carried by the lingers; and a bow spring bearing between the plate and the hinged ends of the lingers to hold the latter yieldingly in any desired position.
Q. A game counter consisting of a ring adapted to be worn on the thumb or linger of a player; a metal plate secured to the ring; a hinge pin carried by the plate and cut away at intervals to form shoulders; a
series of fingers rotatively mounted upon the Cut away portions of the hinge pin; disks carried by the fingers; and a bon7 spring bearing at its ends upon the plate and having its intermediate portion bearing yieldingly against and curved to fit the hinged ends of the said fingers.
In testimony whereof, I have signed my name to this specification, in the presence of two subscribing Witnesses.
ROBERT BENNETT HUTHESON.
