GARMENT-HANGER.
Application filed September 14, 1911.
To all whom z't may concern:
Be it known that I, HARvEY C. MARK- MAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Denver in the county of Denver and State of Colorado, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Garment- Hangers, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in garment hangers and has for its leading object the provision of an improved device of this character which will serve to satisfactorily support a pair of trousers and will aid in preserving the creases in the trousers.
The further object of my invention is the provision of an improved fastening device for a garment hanger of this character which will serve both to fasten the two portions of the hanger together in clamping engage ment with the trousers and will also provide a hook or loop by which the device may be hung up and which will lock the device against all possibility of accidental disengagement from the trousers when the device is hung up.
FM 'Other objects and advantages of my improved garment hanger will be readily apparent by reference to the following description taken in connection with the accom-- panying drawings and it will be understood that I may make any modifications in the specific structure shown and described within the scope of my claims without departing from or exceeding the spirit of my invention.
Figure 1 represents a plan view of my complete device. Fig. 2 represents an edge view of the device with the two halves swung together. Fig. 3 represents an end view of Fig. 3.
In the drawings, the numeral 1 designates the main section of my improved trousers hanger and pressing device, said main section being slightly tapered in form and having at its major end the ear 2 to which is pivotally secured by the link 3 the ear 4 of the supplemental section 5. Said section 5 is further formed with an ear 6 for engagement beneath the reversely bent ear 7 of the section 1 which provides a hook for engaging the ear of the section 5 to lock the sections together at one end. Said sections 1 and 5 may he termed of any suitable re- Specification of Letters Patent.

silient material and are shaped to curve away from each other and normally be of concavo-convex shape as is clearly shown in the drawings.
In the use of my device the pair of trousers 8 to be hung up and pressed is inserted between the sections 1 and 5 which are then clamped together at their major end. Said sections are each formed with a shoulder 9 near the minor end providing the offset portion 10 on each section. These ofi sets are sufliciently spaced to allow the sections to bear tightly against each other and provide room for the cuffs or hems 11 at the bottoms of the trousers legs.
Rotatably engaged in one of the offset portions 10 is the member 12 having formed on its outer end the upwardly curving hooked arm 13 by which the device may be hung up and having formed on its inner end the head 14 disposed at right angles to the straight portion of the hook l3. Said head 14: is adapted to pass through the slot 15 in the other offset 10 when the hook lies parallel to the minor axis of the members 1 and 5 and turning of the hook into its upright position then serves to hold the minor ends of the sections 1 and 5 while the inward bowing tendency of said sections causes the same to tightly bear against the trousers and thus to hold the same in correct flat posit-ion and aid in pressing the creases therein.
From the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings the construction of my improved garment hanger will be readily understood, and it will be seen that I have provided a simple, inexpensive and durable device which will serve to hold a pair of trousers in the best possible shape and in which my supporting hook also serves to lock the device against the trousers and thus to absolutely prevent accidental releasing of the device when the same is hanging up.
I claim:
1. A garment hanging device comprising a pair of sect-ions hinged at one end and adapted to receive a garment therebetween, one of said sections having a slot formed in its free end, and the other section having a hook pivotally mounted the-rein with a head extension adapted to pass through the HARVEY C. MARKMAN.
slot of the other section and to engage said section as the hook is raised into operative position to lock the sections together.
2. A' trouser hanger comprising a pair of pivoted members shaped to fit against the legs of a pair of trousers and having offset portions for receiving the horns of the trousers therebetween, and means for clamping the free ends of the device together to hold Witnesses J OSEPH C. MAGUIRE, CI-IARLns L. AVERY.
