I'he Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part 0! the same i To all whom it may concern e Be it known that I, GEORGE W. ELDRIDGE, of South ,Ohatham in the county of Barnstable and State of Massmhusettshave invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fire Kindler; and do' hereby declare thatthefollowing is a full, clear, and exact de scription' thereof. My pl'esent'invention is intended as an improvement updh the patent, for fire kindler granted to me April 5,1870,andcohsists in coating wood with a a mixture composed of rosin or pitch, inflammable oil,
and leaves, dried grasses, straw, shavings, or saw- In order to enable others skilled in the art to which {my invention appertains to make and use the same,
.1 will now proceed to describe the manner in which myfire-kindler is or may be prepared.
I take'a quantity of rosin or pitch, melt the same over a slow fire until it is heated near to boiling, and
then add a small quantity of kerosene or other inflammable oil.
Then I add to this preparation leaves, dried grasses, straw, sawdust, or shavings, in suitable quantity, and with the mixture thus prepared I coat pieces of wood of suitable size, either by dipping the wood into the mixture, or by dipping the wood into the; liquor hefore the dry material is added, and then rolling the wood on the said dry material, or scattering the dry material over the .wood.
Having thus fully described my idilention,
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- A fire-kindler, composed of wood coated with a mixture composed of rosin or pitch, kerosene, or other inflammable oil, and leaves, dried grasses, straw, shavings, or sawdust, substantially as herein set forth.
