KINDLING-BLOCK The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.

To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, WILLIAM Lomi, of Bergen, in the county of Hudson, and State of N ew Jersey, have invented a new and improved Kindling-Garcass; and I do hereby declare that the followingis a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the saine, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part oi' this specilication, in Which-f Figure l is a perspective view of my invention.

Figure 2 isa cross-section ofthe saine, through the line :c a; of fig. 1.

Similar letters of reference indicate like parts.

The object of this invention is to furnish a cheap and'convenientuarticle of kindling-material, or kindlingcarcass, for kindling fires, in stoves, grates, ranges, fireplaces, and for other like uses.

It consists of a rectangular pen or block of kindlingt'egots or splints, laid one upon the other, at the ends ofthe said fagots, in the manner in which rail or log pens are made,

lhe fagots are saturated or dipped in any melted inflammable matter, as pitch, rosin, or any of the analogous compositions for satin-ating kindling-wood, fagots, or sirnilararticles.

The interior space or cavity formed by the fagots, rerranged as described, is stuffed with any light kindling-fibres, as cane-bres, or common wood shavings, which letter I prefer to use, as cheapest and most generally obtainable.

The splints are fastened together by long Wooden or metal pins, running through all the fagots, at each corner, thus holdinT the same together, in the form of a block, as described.

By the employment of single rods or pins at each corner ofthe carcass, to fastenthe fagots, the carcass is susceptible of being compressed from a rectangular to a lozenge-tbrm, to accommodate it to e grate or stove of less breadth, if necessary.

Having thus described my invention,

I claim as new, and desire to seciu'e by Letters Patent- The kiinlling-carcass, composed ofthe fagots ay b B, arranged as described, when said fag-ots are connected together by the corner-rods, in such a manner as to permit the compression of the carcass, to adapt it to grates of varying sizes, es herein shown and described.
