To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, CHARLES C. BRUNER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Portsmouth, in the county of Rockingham and State of New Hampshire, have invented new and useful Improvements in Poison- Bottle Labels, of which the following is a specification.

The invention relates to bottle attachments, and more particularly to the class of poison labels for bottles.

The primary object of the invention is the provision of an attachment of this character in which a poison label will be automatically shifted to view, thereby indicating to the holder of the bottle, the character of the contents thereof, so as to avoid a mistake in the administering of the contents to a patient.

Another object of the invention is the provision of a bottle attachment in which a mistake in dispensing the contents thereof will be avoided, thus bringing before the eyes of the holder of the bottle the character of the contents, which will give notice of the nature of the contents within the bottle.

A further object of the invention is the provision of a bottle attachment which is simple of construction, thoroughly reliable and efiicient in its purpose, and inexpensive in manufacture.

With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and pointed out in the claim hereunto appended.

In the drawings: Figure 1 is a fragmentary side elevation of a bottle, showing the invention applied thereto. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the bottle when in tilted position, showing the relative position of the attachment. Fig. 3 is an end elevation of the bottle when in tilted position. Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the attachment removed from the bottle.

Similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views of the drawings.

Referring to the drawings by numerals, 5 designates a portion of a bottle of any ordinary well-known construction having the usual neck 6, the same being closed by a removable stopper 7 and to the neck 6 of the bottle is adapted to be detachably connected the poison indicator attachment, as will be hereinafter more fully described. This poison indicator attachment comprises a resilient clip member 8 formed from a spring metal strip,'and is adapted to partially encircle the bottle neck 6, the clip being provided with outturned ends 9, whereby it may be readily and easily mounted upon the neck 6 and removed therefrom. At a point centrally of the clip 8 is connected a swing- ,ing arm 10, the same being pivoted, as at 11, to the said clip, and is bent to form an offset extremity 11, provided with a weight 12 at its end. The remaining extremity of the arm is bent to provide a right angular label extension 12, the same being provided with suitable indicia, such as the word Poison thereon, the extension being projected laterally at right angles to the arm, and is adapted to be sustained in a state of equilibrium when the bottle is at rest, and on the tipping of the latter, the arm 9 will remain in perpendicular position, thereby holding the label extension 12 in full view of the holder of the bottle, so that the word Poison on the said extension may be clearly visible, thereby notifying such holder of the nature of the contents of the bottle while in the act of pouring its contents therefrom. Thus, it can be readily seen that the attachment when applied to the bottle will obviate any mistake on the art of the holder as to the administering 0 its contents for the reason that the label extension 12 will make visible the word Poison therein, indicating to a person the character of the contents of the bottle before the dispensing thereof from the same.

What is claimed is:

An article of manufacture, a poison indicator attachment for a bottle, comprising a resilient clip adapted to detachably embrace the neck of such bottle, a swinging arm formed from a single flat strip of metal bent between its ends to make a U-shaped medial portion, one end of the strip being bent to protect laterally from one side of the U-shaped medial portion and having indicia on its outer face, the other end of the strip being bent at right angles to the first-mentioned end and disposed in the plane of the U-shaped medial portion but offset so as to clear the body of such bottle Patented July 2, 1912.
