Description

W222: asses 0. S. BARBOUR, Jn.
FASTENING DEVICE.
APPLICATION IILBI) MBA, 1912.
Patented July 2, 1912 CHARLES S. HARBOUR, JR, OF ROCKFORD, ILLINOIS.
FASTENING DEVICE.
Spepification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 2,1912.
Application filed March 4, 1912. Serial. No. 681,598.
To all whom it may concern:
Bev it known'that I, Calms S. Bassoon,
J r., a citizen of the United States, residing at Rockford, in the county of Winnebagoand State of Illinois, have invented certaln new and useful Improvements in Fastening Devices, of which the following is a specification.
, changed to of a pin an eye 8 may be attached to the The ob'ect of this invention is to construct a utton or .pin head so that. the ornamental center thereof may be readily match the hat or garment of thg'usefi'. p
n t e accompanying drawing, Figure 1 is an end view of the head. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of a pin. Fig. 3 is a section on line a a Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is asection on line b b Fig. 3. .Fig. 5 1s a section on line 0 c Fig. 3. Fig. 6 man elevation of a button.
The main ortion of the head comprises the shell havmg the edging 1 formed with an internal flange 2' provided with cutaway sections 3, and ralsed portions 4 in the flange. The shell has a central opening 5.
A pin.6 has a cap plate 7 secured to it as shown at Figs. 2, 3 and 4, and in place cap plate as shown at Fig. 6. This cap late is convex in cross-section and 1s ormed with a flange 9. A coil ring 10 surrounds the pin 6 or eye 8, one en resting against the cap plate 7. A disk 11 is loosely mounted on the pin6 or eye 8, and contacts with the other end of the coil sprin 10. 'A clamp ng plate 12 is loosely mounte on the pin or eye.
In"assembling the parts, a cloth disk 13 is'placed within theshelloverthe opening 5.
The cap plate is then seated against the cloth disk. The disk 11 is located within the shell and the cross-bar is pressed through the cut-away sections 3 of the flange-2, and turned axially until its ends are seated in" the raised portions 4. .The spring 10 located between the cross-bar and the cap plate, will hold the cross-bar in the raised portions of the shell and hold the cloth disk stretched over the cap plate and between it and the walls of the shell forming the opening 5. This construction of head for pins and buttons admits of the use of a cloth disk to match the hat or garment of the wearer.
I claim as my invention.
1. A fastening device comprising a shell having a central opening and an interme diate flange with cut-away portions, a cap- .plate having a stem secured to it, a cross-bar loosely mounted on the stem, and a spring interposed between the cap plate and crossbar. I
2. A fastening device comprising a shell having a central opening and an mturned flange with cut-away portions and raised sections, a cap-plate having a stem secured
