To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, AoNns RAY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Oakland, in the county of Alameda and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Corsets, of which the following is a specification.

This invent'on relates to corsets embodying an abdominal supporter, the objects of the invent'on being to provide a corset which will conform to the modern highly developed types designed to give a proper graceful appearance to the figure, without causing injurious displacement of the internal organs and to combine therewith an abdominal supporter which will adequately and comfortably support the abdomen in such manner as to counteract any dragging sensation due to the draft of the'garment supporters attached to the corset.

Another object is to so position and arrange the abdominal supporter that it is effective, regardless of the size of the alodraw the parts upwardly and backwardly, independent of the corset, whereby the corset will not be distorted from the accepted lines of grace and fashion.

Another object of the invention is to pro- Vide a structure which is simple and easy to manufacture and apply and which will retain its proper position on the figure even though the wearer indulges in active bodily exercise.

Referring to the accompanying drawings: Figure 1 is a perspective view of a corset with its abdominal supporter showing the position and arrangement of the parts on the body of the wearer. Figs. 2 and 3 are an elevation and a section, respectively, of a detachable connection between the upper portion of the abdominal supporter and inner part of the corset. Fig. 4 is an elevation of the abdominal supporter band detached from the corset.

In said drawings the number 5 indicates the corset which is of the modern type having the straight front effect with the customary bones and stud fastenings in the median vertical line and apron or skirt depending at the front. In the corset illustrated the lower portion is made adjustable to conform to the figure below the waist line by vertically arranged lacing in front of the hips and thighs.

The abdominal supporter indicated generally by the number 9 is in the form of a band, wide at the center with its upper edge 11 but slightly curved and its lower edge made to conform closely to the groin line of the wearer. The wide central portion is stiffened by bones or equivalent means indicated at 10, and at its upper portion it is detachably connected at the center with the inner side of the corset at a point a considerable distance above the lower edge of the corset by a hook 8, or other fastening, secured to the corset, with which the edge of the band may engage and be held down in such manner that its lower part may swing inwardly and upwardly independently of the depending front of the corset.

The narrow ends of the abdominal supporter band are connected with the corset at the sides and at approximately the parts which overlie the hips of the wearer below the waist line. In the arrangement illustrated the ends of the band pass through slits or openings 6 in the corset and are provided with adjusting means such as buckles 7 and eyelets or holes 13.

In use the upper portion of the stiffened center of the band being held by the corset, the lower portion swings inwardly into an inclined position around and under the abdomen of the wearer and with its edge closely conforming to the groin line, While the lower part of the corset is left in pendent position in front or outside of the band where it will conform to the desired contour lines of the figure and may be adjusted and utilized as usual.

The construction and manner of connecting the band cause the same to fit the abdomen snugly without danger of working out of position or of permitting the soft parts of the body to gradually work away from the same and these beneficial results follow even though the figure of the wearer be extremely fiat.

What I claim is:

1. A corset embodying an abdominal supporter, comprising a centrally stiffened supporting band located on the inner side of the corset, the upper portion of the band being connected at the center with the overlying corset above the lower edge of the corset and with its ends extended upwardly and backwardly and secured to the corset at approximately the hip port-ions below the waist line, whereby the band is held down centrally at the upper edge and caused to assume an inclined position around and under the abdomen of the wearer, while the lower portion of the corset is left in pendent position in front of the band.

2. A corset embodying an abdominal supporter on the inner side of the corset, comprising a band having its lower edge made to substantially conform to the groin line of the wearer, said band being broad at the center and narrow at the ends and with the central portion stiffened, a detachable connection between the upper portion of the band at the center and the inside of the corset above its lower edge, whereby the of the corset and adjustable connections for the ends of the band connected with the corset at points in proximity to the hip portions and below the waist line.
