ELLANOR D. LOCHNER, OF BROGKLYN, EW YORK.
innrnrennaron.
Losetas.
To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that'I, ELLANORA D. LOGH- -Nnm a citizen of the United States, residing at the city of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Refrigerators, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to refrigerators, andits object is to provide a device which stores and suspends the ice in its upper part in a perforated basket and by means of a partition causes a circulationof air down one side and up the other in order to thoroughly distribute the cool air through all parts of the refrigerator as will be more fully described in the following specification, Set forth in the claim and illustrated in the drawings, whereiIn-l Figure 1 is a front elevation of the refrigerator partly broken away to show the interior construction. Fig. 2 is a sectional view on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1. is a sectional view on the line 3-3 of Flg. 1. Fig.
4 is a top plan view with the top removed.I
Fig. 5 is a sectional detail view of one of the doors.
The refrigerator 5 is made ofseveral thicknesses of charred boards which confine the cool air in an odorless condition and keep the interior clean and sanitary. The
refrigerator is divided into'two compartj.
ments at its lower end by means of the removable partitions 6 of sheet metal or any other desired material, with openings 13 and 13 at top and bottom, and above same is a tray 7, supported by cleats on the front and rear walls and which catches the water from the block of ice 8 as it melts, to conduct same through the 'lower partof the refrigerator to the pan 9 beneath same. For this purpose a waste pipe 10 is provided, which has a trap and leads from the tray 7 to the pan 9, and .over the tray 7 is a wire basket 11 to' contain the block of ice which may be 'covered by a -hood 12 of canvas or rubber low ascends Vand is displaced by t-he falling cold air. The basket 11 is supported by the supporting frames 14 which are suitably mounted in the upper corners of the refrig- Specicaton of tetters-l'atent` i Patmledeun@ 25, 912, Application filed November 30, 1910. ,4 Serial No, 59489. i
erator. Baskets 15 may be slidingly supported in the frames 14 in any suitable manner and may be used for any desired purpose.
The partition 6 stops a short distance above the bottom of the refrigerator so that circulation of the air in order to cool their contents, and they are supported by cleats which permit of their instant removal. As will be seen in Fig. 3 the baskets 15 may be slid outward and the shelves made accessible when the doors of,the refrigerator are open.
In order to make the refrigerator thoroughly air-proof, and to prevent the admission of warm air, the doors are constructed as will be seen in Fig. 5, where the jambs 16 are faced with a' sheet metal lining and they inner faces of the door also provided with a lining 17 to it against same and make a close joint. In order to insure this joint, the doors are provided with a packing of endless rubber tube 18, held within a socket 19 of the liningof the door, and this tube is adapted to t againstA the lining 16 and be compressed agamst the same by the door in order to prevent the movement of air between the door and jamb.
It isl obvious that the parts of this device may be modified or otherwise arranged without departing from the essential fea- `tures above described.
The interior Vof the refrigerator may be lined with metal, and it will be seen that all of the parts are removable so that they may be kept: perfectly clean and easily replaced.
What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is,-
In a refrigerator the combination with a casing, of airtight doors in the lower portion of said casing, supporting frames having sliding baskets thereln at the u per corners of the refrigerator, a basket or receiving ice supported by said supporting frames and In testimony whereof I aiix my signature an airtight door for the ice compartment in presence of two Witnesses. and apartition with upper and lower openings, Vand cleats on the front and rear Walls and a tray beneath said ice basket and sup- Jos. G. LOCHNER, ported by said cleats. GEO. STOLL.
