CORSET.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 25, 1912.
Application filed May 20, 1910. Serial No. 562,420.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ELIZABETH FERGUSON HUME, a subject of Great Britain, residing at 70 Heriot Row, Dunedin, in the Dominion of New Zealand, have invented new and useful Improvements in Corsets, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improvement in corsets.
The object of the invention resides in the provision of flush husk clasps and a flush skirt band retainer.
' In the drawings accompanying this specification: Figure l is a front View of the husk showing the two parts coupled, and indicating the skirt band retainer. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the busk. Fig. 3 is a cross section of the husk through a fastener. Fig. i is a cross section through the skirt hand retainer.
The husks 23 and 24 are provided for each front section, having fastenings 25, 26 and 27 adapted to hold the busks together. Each of the fastening members on husk 23 comprises a projecting piece 28 about one half of the thickness of the main portion, having a hole 29 punched therein, which hole is adapted to engage with a fastening member 30 formed in a recess 31 formed in the opposing husk 24. The said part 31 is made slightly bigger than the first mentioned projecting piece 28 so that when the busks are clasped the surface is preferably smooth and flush.
The object of having the fasteners flush is to prevent any undue wear on a dress front and to do away with unsightly project-ions caused by ordinary fasteners.
A skirt band retaining piece 32 is formed on one of the busks at any convenient place, being preferably a continuation of one of the projecting pieces 28 of the husk which forms the fastener. The retaining piece is integral, with the husk and preferably flush with the surface thereof. The portions of the busks in line with the retaining piece are beveled toward the front edge to form a clearance between the husk and the retaining piece to enable a skirt band or belt to pass freely under the retaining piece.
Having described the invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is A corset husk having fasteners thereon said husk being provided with a skirt band retainer, the surface of said retainer being flush with the surface of the husk.
