Be it known that we, BirR'rHoLoMEw H. FOLEY and ZELLA J. FOLEY, citizens of the United States, residing at Stockton, in the county of San Joaquin and Sta-te of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Non-Refillable Bottles and we do declare the following to be a full,

clear, and exact description of the same, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to theaccompanying drawings, and to the characters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this application.

This invention relates to improvements in bottles and particularly to Stoppers thereof; the object of the invention being to produce an auxiliary stopper for the bottle adapted to fit into the neck of the bottle which will permit the liquid to be readily poured from said bottle but prevent any liquid from being poured back into the said bottle. The purpose of this is to prevent spurious liquid from being poured into bottles containing a label for a superior quality of goods from those which it is attempted tol pour into said bottle.

The invention can be used for all kinds of wines, liquors, sauces and in fact, any character or kind of bottled goods.

A further object of the invention is to produce a simple wand inexpensive device and,

yet one which will be exceedingly effective for the purposes for which it is designed. These objects we accomplish by means of such st-ructure and relative arrangement of parts aswill fully appear by a perusal of the following specification and claims.

In the drawings similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several views.

Figure 1 is a sectional view of the neck of a bottle showing ourimproved invention installed therein. Fig.v 2 is a sectional view taken on a line X-X ofFig. -1.

Referring now moreparticularly to the characters of referenceon the drawings, 1

.designates the bottle having the usual neck 2 and the usual top cork or stopper 3.

In using our improved invention we first provide in theinside of the neck 2 spaced slots 4L and 5 and we then insert a tubular member 6 into said neck 2 which member 6 is provided with spring clips 7 in its side the upper ones inclining downwardly and the lower ones inclining upwardly as shown, whereby the upper ones will fit into the slots 4 andV prevent the tubular member 6 from dropping down into the bott-le while the lower ones will fit into the slots 5 and prevent the tubular member 6 from being removed from the top of the neck of the bottle.

The tubular member 6 is lined with cork or other suitable material on its inner side. The inside of the member G is provided with two slots 9 adapted to receive lugs l() inside of the trap member 11 provided with a trap door or cap 12 adapted to fit over an opening 13 in said trap member 11. This cap 12 is hinged to the member 11 as at 14 and is provided with a spring 15 adapted to hold the cap 12 close over the opening 13 with the exception that when the pressure of the fluid inside of the bottle is turned against said cap 12 then said liquid forces said cap open and flows freely from the bottle; but, when it is attempted to till the bottle, said cap 12 prevents any liquid from entering the bottle even though the siphon and other methods may be used in the attempt to do so. Especially is this true when the bottle is empty for then the cap 12 cannot be open even if the bottle is turned upside down since the spring 15 will hold said cap closed in all conditions.` Secured on the top of the tubular member 6 is a perforated cap 1G which permits the liquid to be poured therew through and preventsV the insertion of any instrument for the purpose of tampering with the cap '12.

From the foregoing description it will be readily seen that we have produced such a device as substantially fullils the object of the invent-ion as set forth herein.

While this specification sets forth in detail the present andA preferred construction of the device, still in practice such deviations from such detail may be resorted to as do not form a departure from the spirit of the invention.V 4

Having thus described our invention what we claim as new and useful and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

1. A nonrefillable bottle comprising a bottle having a neck, a metallic tubular member secured in said neck, an inner lining of corkdisposed within said tubular member, said tubular member being provided with two vertical slots, a trap member hav ing lugs fitting into said slots, a spring Patented June 18, 1912.

pressed cap hinged to said trap member and tting over the opening therein, and a perforated cap screwed on to the top of said tubular member, as described.

2. A non-reillable bottle comprising a bottle having a neck provided with two annular grooves spaced apart in its inner surface, a metallic tubular member disposed in said neck and having a projecting spring clip extending downwardly into the upper one of said annular grooves and a similar spring clip projecting upwardly into the lower one of said annular grooves, and a trap member disposed in said metallic member, as described.
