To all 'whom 'it may concern:

Be it known that I, JOI-IN JAY LEPPER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Milwaukee, county of Milwaukee, and State of Wisconsin, have invented new and useful Improvements in Advertising Devices, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to improvements in advertising devices.

The object of my invention is to provide means for attracting the attention of the public to a corn cure or other remedy, and it pertains, more especially among other things, to the construction of a hollow member representing a persons foot, a movable image representing the popular idea of his satanic majesty in appearance, provided with a spear, together with electrical mechanism for moving such image, whereby an electric spark is produced as such spear is brought in contact with the toes of the foot.

My invention is further explained by reference to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 represents a side view of a foot upon which the image referred to is shown in the act of moving the spear and thereby producing a spark. Fig. 2represents an enlarged longitudinal section ot' a part of the ligure representing a foot, showing a side view oi' the image and the operating mechanism by which such image ismoyed, and Fig. 3 is a detail view, showing a section of the upper portion of one of the toes, in which a corn is represented by a transparent plate.

Like parts are identilied by the same reference numerals throughout the several views.

1 is a hollow ligure representing a persons foot.

2 represents a movable image in the act of bringing a spear 3 in contact with a corn 4 on one of the several toes 5 of the foot.

6 represents the legs of the image, which are rigidly secured to the foot 1 at the point of contact.

7 is the body of the image which is pivotally connected with the legs by the pivotal bolt 8, whereby such body is free to be moved upwardly and downwardly.

9, 9, represent the arms of. the image, which `are pivotally connected with the body 7 by the pivotal bolt 10, while the spear 3 is rigidly connected with the hands 11 of said image and is adapted to be raised and lowered with the body of such image.

An upward and downward movement is communicated from the driving mechanism, not shown, to the body 7 of the image, and from thence to the spear through the belt 12, pulley 13, revoluble shaft 14, worm gear 15, gear'wheel 16, crank 17, pin 18, rod 19 and pivotal bolt 10, said shaft 19 being connected with the same pivotal bolt by which the arms 9 are connected with the body 7, whereby with each revolution of the gear wheel 16, the body 7 of the image is raised and lowered, it being moved upward from the position shown in Fig. 2 to that indicated by dotted lines in said figure, and from thence back to its original position, whereby said spear is simultaneously raised from the position shown in Fig. 2 to that indi* cated by dotted lines in said gure, and returned again to the position shown.

2O represents a storage battery, or other source of electrical energy, and 21 represents a switch board of ordinary construction, by which the electric current is communicated from the battery 2O with the electric circuit wires 22 and 23, and from thence through said image and spear to the electric terminals 24 and 25, whereby as the terminal 24, which forms the point of the spear is brought intoclose proximity to the terminal 25, a current of electricity is caused to flash from one of said terminals to the other, whereby an electric spark is produced and the attention of the public is called thereby to said figure, and the advertising matter connected therewith. The electric circuit wire 22 is connected with one of the feet of the image through the bolt 26, whereby the current of electricity is led to said image, when it passes from thence through the image and spear to the terminal 24, as described.

27 represents an electric lamp of ordinary construction, which is preferably connected with the electric circuit wire 23, whereby an electric light is produced in said lamp as t- he terminals 24 and 25 are brought in contact with the downward movement of the spear.

28 are transparent plates which represent corns.

While I have shown and described my device as adapted to be used for advertising a corn cure, it is obvious that the same may,

if desired, be used for other advertising purposes.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

l. In a device of the described class, the combination of a stationary member, a movable image connected with said member, a spear carried by said image, an electrical terminal carried by said spear, a source of electrical energy, an electric circuit, one branch of said circuit being connected with the moving terminal carried by said spear and the other branch with the stat-ionary terminal, and means for automatically moving the body of said image and the movable y terminal toward and from said stationary terminal.

2. In a device of the described class, the combination of a stationary hollow member, a movable image connected with said member, a spear carried by said image, an electrical terminal carried by said spear, a source of electrical energy, an electric circuit located in said hollow member, one branch of said circuit being connected with the moving terminal carried by said spear and the other branch with the stationary terminal, and means located in said hollow Ycombination of a stationary member, a m0vable image connected with said member, a spear carried by said image, an electrical terminal carried by said spear, a source of electrical energy, an j electric circuit, one

V branch of said circuit being connected with a moving terminal carried by said spear and the other branch with a stationary terminal, an electric lamp located in said electric circuit, and means for automatically moving the body of the image and the movable terminal toward and from said stationary terminal, whereby as said electric circuit is closed by the movement of said image, an electric spark is produced between said terminals and an electric light is produced in said lamp, all substantially as and for the purpose specified.
