Description

To all 'whom-t may conce-rn.'
dilated' gratta iiwi @inw DAVID B. HAY, OF DAYTON, OHIO.
LetteraPa-'tent No. 102,937, :lated May 10, 1870.
IMPRovEn scAr'roLD-sUPPoRa-ER.
The Sehedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
Be it known that I, DAvIHD YB, HAY, of Dayton, in the county of Montgomery and AState of Ohio, have `invented an ImprovedScaffold-Support; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact' description thereof. reference being had toy the annexed drawings making part of this specification, in which#- 4 Figure 1- isa perspective vie-w. p
-Figure 2 is a vertical longitudinal Section. Fignre 3 is a perspective view, showing how the de vice may be nsed for -ra'isin,f 'ir or lowering a platform bodily.
Corresponding letters refer to correspondingr parts in the several gures.
The nat-ure 4of my invention consists in providing a device for supporting scaffolding, it being a band of metal, 'of a rectang'nlaivor other -suitable form, beveled from its ends toward the center, where it is provided with a wedge-shaped cross-bar, as hereinafter Amore fullyset forthi (lpo enable thcs'c skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe its construc- 1 tion and operation,
A, in the drawings, represents a continuous band of metal, vwhich may be iliade of a rect-angular form, as-
shown, or any other suit-able shape. It is to be made vides the opening into tivo equal spaces, ea'ch of which is to be ot' such dimensions as'to be capable of re ceiving an ordinary upright used in` scaffolding.
This device may be used in the following manner:
Oneis slipped over each upright of a scaffold in such a manner that .the base of the wedge-shaped cross-bar is onthe under side. It is apparent that it will grasp such upright at any desired point where the platform is needed. This latter may then be formed by placing one end of a eross-beam upon the protruding part of the device, which, by reasoni'of its curved or angled form, will incline toward the upright, and t-hus prevent the beam from slipping olf, and extend the other end across to the wall, where it may be supported in the usiial manner, and laying boards upon these beam's. To afford a more secure platform, the outer end of each beam may he secured in the protruding part of the device.
Having thus described my invention,
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-' j The device herein described, substantially as and for the purpose set forth. i
In testimony whereof VI have signed my name to this specification in the presence of'two subscribing witnesses. A
l D. B. HAY.
