HAIR-STEAMING DEVICE.
Applicatien filed l orember 16, 1911.
To all whom it may concern: 7
Be it known that we, TnoMAs Grosser, a resident of the city of New York, borough of Manhattan, in the county and State of New York, and ERNEST UNGER, a resident of the city of New York, borough or" the Bronx, in the county and State of blew- York, both citizens of the United- States, have invented a new and Improved Hair- Steaming Device, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
Our invention relates to a hair steaming device, and an objectof the invention is to. provide a heated tube adapted to surround the coil of wet hair, to steam the same.
With the above and other objects in view, as will more fully appear, the present invention consists in certain novel detailsof construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter described.
We attain, the above outlined objects vby disposing a coil of hair within one of a pair of concentric tubes, between which tubes is disposed a resistance to electric energy, by means of which the tubes are heated. Suitable heat-insulating material surrounds theworking parts, and means are afiorded for suspending the device in any suitable position. a
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of thisfspecification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures, and in which Figure 1 is a side elevation showing a preferred embodimentof our invention; Fig. 2 is a horizontal transverse sectional view taken on the plane indicated by the line 22 of Fig. 1 and looking in the direction of the arrow; Fig. 3 is a perspective view showing the outer insulation removed and the inner tube partly removed from the outer tube, and Fig. 4 is a rear elevation showing the bore-closing door.
Described more in detail, our invention Specification of Letters Eatent.
Serial to. 660,592.
for a'handle 11, the ends of which wire are engaged by a pair of nuts 12, one on each side of the plate 10 and bearing upon said plate, to rigidly hold said wire in position. The wire is substantially U shaped, the outer end 13 being bent upwardly, as shown in Fig. l, to bring the same out of alinement with. the bore of the inner tube 5, so that ready access maybe afforded to said bore from the inner end of the device. The bore is normally closed by means of a hinged plate 14 (see Fig. 4), which plate contains an aperture 15, afiording means for the escape of the steam through said plate.
Disposed about the outer end or the inner Patented June til, 15912.,
tube 5, is a ring spaced member 16 of some the passage of electric current throughwhich by means of the insulated leads 19, heats the material 18, as is common with electric heaters. The leads 19 pass through the ring 17., through theaperture 9 in the ring 8, to any suitable source of electric power.
Encircling the inner tube 5 and spaced,
therefrom, bymeans of the rings 8, 17 and 16, is an outer metal tube 20, one end of which is curled outward, to form a flange 21 disposed adjacent the ring 16, the opposite end of which has a pair of diametricall disposed recesses 22 adapted to telesco e the nuts 12, so as to bring the inner flush with the plate 10.
in order to hold the outer tube 20 in place, as well as to afford a holding means by which the device may be suspended, an aperture 24- is formed in the top of the outer tube 20, which aperture is adapted to be brought into alinement with a threaded re cess 25 in the top of the ring 8, through which aperture is extended the threaded end 26 of a U bail 27, the opposite end of which bail has a notch 28 therein, adapted to be sprung into a recess 29 in the top of the outer tube 20. Adjustably mounted upon the bail 27, is a suspending hook 30, held in place by a jam nut 31. By meansot this ing means disposed between said tubes and at one end thereof, an insulating handle extending from said tubes, and means for suspending said device in adjusted position.
2. In a device for steaming hair, a pair of concentrically-disposed and telescoped tubes, means maintaining said tubes spaced from each other, electric resistance disposed .between said tubes, and a'removable plate normally closing the bore of the inner of said tubes, said closing plate having an aperture therein, to permit the escape of steam from the end of the bore of said inner tube.
3. In a hair-steaming device, a tube having one end thereof flared outward and the opposite end externally screw-threaded, a spacin ring engaging said screw-threaded end, a j-acent the end of the tube, a plate in screw-threadedengagement with said tube at the end, a handle connected to said end plate, an outer tube collapsing said inner tube and held spaced from the same by said ring, said outer tube abutting said plate, and
electrical heating means disposed between said tubes.
4:. In a hair-steaming device, an inner tube, a spacing ring carried by said tube, an-
outer tube spaced from said inner tube by said ring, a heating means adapted to be disposed between said tubes, a U-shaped bail having one end thereof passing through said outer tube and engaging said ring, and means for removably connecting the other endof said bail with said outer tube.
5. In a hair-steamin device, an inner tube, a spacing ring carried by said tube, an outer tube spaced from said inner tube by said ring, heating means disposed between said tubes, a U-shaped bail having one end thereof passing through said outer tube and engaging said ring, means for removably connecting the other end of said bail with said outer tube, a movable hook carried by said bail, and means carried by said hookfor locking the same on said bail.
6. In a hair-steaming device, an inner tube adapted to contain the hair, an outer tube encircling and spaced from said inner tube, electrically energized heating material disposed between said tubes and at one end thereof, a handle extending from said device at the end opposite the end containing the heating material, and electric leads for said material entering said outer tube at the end havingthe handle.
In testimony whereof we have signed our names to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
