OBSTETRICAL DEVICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 11, 1912.
Original application filed December 17, 1909, Serial No. 533,694. Divided and this application filed June 2,
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Josnr Srtienn, a subject of the German Emperor, and residing at Munich, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Obstetrical Devices, of which the following is a specification.
This application is a division of the pending application, filed by me on December 17 1909, Ser. No. 533,694 for obstetrical device.
The present invention has reference to a device for facilitating child birth, and it relates more especially to a device or apparatus with which to apply a steady, mechanical pressure against the lumbar portion of the back of the laboring woman.
In order to make this invention more readily understood, I will now describe it with reference to the accompanying drawing which shows a side elevation of the improved device.
Upon the base plate a is provided an upstanding bracket b, to which are pivotally secured the hand lever 0 and the lever 03, the free end of which carries the pad 6. An inclined plane f is also secured on the plate a, and a roller g, which is operatively connected to the hand lever by means of the member Z, travels on this incline upon the hand lever being oscillated, and correspondingly lowers or raises the pad-carrying lever (Z resting upon it.
The hand lever may be secured in the desired position in any desirable manner; as shown, this is accomplished by means of a pin it which is inserted in one of the holes 2' provided in the bracket 7).
Upon the handle being swung in the direction of the arrow, the roller 9 will climb the inclined plane and thereby lift the pad lever as required.
The plate a may be provided with a handle is for steadying the device. In use the apparatus is placed on the bed or upon a special support, laterally of the body of the woman, the pad lever lying approximately rectangularly to the spinal axis and the pad supporting the lower end of the spine at about the lumbar region. By swinging the hand lever in the direction of the arrow, the pad end is raised and in turn correspondingly elevates the small of the womans back, bending the trunk upwardly at the hip region.
What I claim is In an obstetrical device, a plate, a handle thereon, a hand lever and a pad carrying lever, both fulcrumed on said plate, inclined plane means on said plate, a roller interposed between said inclined plane and said pad carrying lever, means connecting said roller tosaid hand lever, and means for securing said hand lever in the desired position, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
