v To all persons telekom these presents 'may coman Be it known that L-'CHARLS VARNEY, of'East Brimeld, of the county of jHampden, of the State of Massachusetts, have made a new and useful invention, having reference to PeggingJacks and do hereby declare the Same to be fully described in the following specication, andrepresented in the accompav nying drawings, in which-f- Figure 1 is a side elevation, and

IFigure 2, a transverse section of av pegging-jack providedwith my invention; which consists-f' First, in makingfthe cam-supporterv separate from V lolie socketed post/,and applying such supporter to such post by means of screws, so asyto enable the supporter to-be adjusted on .the post relativelyl to the operative cam, as hereinafterexplained.

Second, in the eombinatiohof a spring with, the cam audits adjustable supporter,'the holder and its sustaining-post, the vpurpose of the said washer and spring beingfto Vpreventthe cainfromv being revolved by the concussion induced by blows Vof a hammer on a shoe, while supported by a last held by the jack.

The o bje'ct ,of the adjust-able supporter is to effect the proper adjustment of the cam with reference to the holder after either-or both their bearing-surfaces may have become worn by friction or otherwise.

In the drawings,-

C, the adjustable toe-rest of such holder.

The said cain rests on an annular metallic washer, b, which, in turn, is superimposed upon a spring or circular mass, c, of India rubber or the equivalent thereof, resting upon a screwlnnt or adjustable camsupporter, F, which-screws 'upon the spindle or post D.

I make no claim to anydevice, combination, or arrangement of devices, as represented in the United States patent No. 46,484, granted February 21, 1865.

In the peg-jack described in such patent, the camsnpporter or bed-piece is in o'ne piece with lts socketed Shanks, whereas, in mypcg-jack, the twoare in separate pieces and applied together, by means of screws, so as to enable the cam-supporting ,part F to be adjusted up or down on the post D, which is of much advantage, as lle'reinbefore mentioned.

The additions which I have made to thc jack ren- Therefore, what I claim in the peg-jack described as my improvement is- Y v The cam-supporter F, as made separate from the sustaining part D, and applied to vit by means, and so as to be adjustable thereon, as specilied. v

Also, in the peg-jack, as described, the combination and arrangement of the spring c, provided or net with the metallic washer b, with the holder A, its sustaining post D, the cam E, and the cam-supporter F, separate from the post D, and applied thereto by screws,

as and for the purpose asset forth.
