Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom t mayconoem Be it known that I, WILLIAM H. ADDISON, a citizen of the United States of America, and a resident of the city of Seattle, in the county of King and State of Washington, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Crimping Appliances, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention pertains to a novel appliance of the above type especially designed for traversing suspension cables to facilitate the labor of crimping or pressing attachments on the cable to secure them in place.
The invention consists in certain novel features and combinations Vof parts as set forth in the following description and defined in the annexed claims.
In the accompanying drawing, wherein similar reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout the several views: Figure 1 is a plan of a cable traversing appliance embodying the features of my invention, portions of some of the p arts being broken away. Fig. 2 is a fragmentary side elevation in partial section taken on line 2-2 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is an end elevation, and Fig. 4 is an end elevation of a cable hanger. f
I have illustrated my invention in a prepressing members or forms 1 and 2 mounted on opposite arms 3 which are pivoted to a bracket 4 of a supporting carriage and connected by a tie 5.
Members 1, 2, as shown, are in the nature of wheels of suitable design for closing the att-aching ihooks 6 of the cable hanger 6 about a messenger cable, as 7, and are provided, respectively, with concaved peripheral surfaces 1a, 2a, which co-act to compress the heads of these hooks, and with peripheral flanges 1b, 2b which serve to press the shank and bill of each hook together.
Provision is made for operating member 1 to roll it upon the work andthe flange 1D thereof is preferably notched or serrated vto provide a continuous series of teeth, as 1C which are inclined in the direction of rotation of the member and serve to engage the work to advance the device during the pressing operation as will be later understood.
The supporting carriage comprises inverted U-shaped frames 8, 8, engaged with bolt axles 9, 9 of grooved bearing wheels 10,
10, and4 connected by ya bar 11 which is engaged with the bolts 9 and bolted to angular lugs 4 of bracket 4. Beneath bar 11 is a seat 12 for the lineman, consisting of a plank Vor board secured to suitable stem extensions,
as 8 of the frames 8. Y
The arms 3, 3, which as will beobserved project from one end of the carriage, are provided at their outer ends with overlying cheek parts 3, 3 and terminate at the inner `ends in eye bosses 3, 3" which are engaged with depending pivot bolt-s 13, 13 seated on bracket 4. These' arms are further sustained by swing hangers` comprising inclined eye khooks 14, 14 which have their eye parts engaged with an eye lug 14 secured to the adjacent frame 8 and their hook parts engaged with respective xed eyes 14" on the cheek` parts 3.
The members 1, 2, which are j ournaled on respective pins 15 seated in the cheek parts 3 and underlying arms 3, are held in proper spaced relations for crimping by the tie 5 which is .provided with suitably spaced pins 5,5tting' snugly but freely in respective apertures provided in the cheek parts 3 and arms 3. Similar ties may be provided as substitutes f for tie 5 with their pins spaced in conformity with cables of different diameters as may be desired in applying the device to various cable lines.
For operating member 1 I have shown a pawl and ratchet device comprising a ratchet wheel 16, formed integral with said member, and a spring pressed pawl 17 mounted on a bifurcated handle' 18 which is pivotally engaged with the axle pin 15 of member 1.
In placing the device, tie 5 is removed to release the arms 3 for outward movement to carry the members 1, 2 clear of the cable. The carriage is now lifted over the cable and lowered to apply the bearing wheels 10, 10 on the cable and tie 5 then replaced.

2. An appliance for crimping an attachment applied to a cable track comprising a supporting means adapted for traversing the track, and pressure means arranged to extend alongside the track and provided with active faces for engagement with the attachment both above and below the track.

A crimping appliance comprising a supporting means adapted for traversing an elevated cable track, means on said supporting means for bending attachments applied to said track including opposing pressure members rotatably supported on said supporting means and having grooved peripheral portions for reception of said track therein, and means for applying one of said pressure members to bend attachments on said track and simultaneously advance said supporting means.

A crimping appliance comprising a supporting means adapted for traversing an elevated cable track, and spaced rotatable pressure members mounted on said means for engaging therebetween attachments applied to said track, said members being provided with coacting grooved surfaces for bending the attachments about said track, said members being free for rotation to permit of partial insertion of an attachment therebetween.

A crimping appliance comprising a supporting means adapted for traversing a track, rotatable pressure members 'mounted Yon vsaidY vmeans in opposing ,relations` for clenchinghattachnients onA the track, and means for rotating one of said members including a driving member movable to and fro, and a releasable driving connection between saiddriving member and thepressure member.

A crimpingY appliance comprising a supporting means adapted for traversing a cable track, opposite arms projecting endwisel from said means and connected therewith for lateral swinging movement, companion members rotatably mounted on said arms for pressing attachments on the cable track, means for releasably connecting said arms, and means for rotating one of said members.
