To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, FERDINAND FRANK, citizen of the United States, residing in the city and county of San Francisco and State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Curtain and Like Display Devices, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to an apparatus for displaying curtains and like goods, which are usually carried in rolls or sheets, and which must be unrolled and exposed for display purposes.

It consists of an adjustable, two-part shaft adapted to receive any desired number of sheets between the parts, means for adjustably locking the shaft to form a single, revoluble structure, which is so mounted as to unroll or roll the goods so that they can be afterward placed in a protective case, by removing the shaft from its bearings.

The invention consists of the parts and the construction and combination of parts as hereinafter more fully described and claimed, having reference to the accompanying drawings, in which-- Figure 1 is a general view of my device. Fig. 2 illustrates the adjustment of the't-woparts of the shaft.

1 For the purpose of exposing laces and similar goods, it is desired that they have a support from which they may be extended to any desired length to show the figure and beauty of the goods advantageously. For this purpose I have shown ashaft made of two-parts, 2 and 2 so that between these two portions of the shaft the goods may be laid and when the desired quantity has been introduced the parts of the shaft are closed together to clamp the goods in place and may be held by clamping devices as at 3, which may be arranged to slip over each end of the shaft. Beyond these clamping devices the two-parts of the shaft are made approximately cylindrical so that they may rest in bearings as at 4: and by means of a crank 5, or other convenient equivalent, the shaft may be turned so as to roll or unroll the goods upon it. Any suitable bracket or support such as illustrated at 6 may be conveniently disposed to carry the roll for the purposes of exhibition. If more convenient, a permanent bracket may be fixed to a wall extending outwardly therefrom and having depressed grooves into which the journal portion of the shaft may rest. Such grooves are illustrated at 7.

In order to adjust the two-part shaft to receive different quantities of goods which it may be desired to place upon it, I have shown the slots in the clamps which embrace the two parts 'of the shaft as made sufliciently longer in one direction than the corresponding diameter of the shaft, so that the two parts may be separated or drawn together, to suit the requirements. These clamps have extensions 8 through which are formed screw-threaded openings and through these openings extend screws 9, the ends of which contact with one of the halves of the shaft and by turning the screw the parts of the shaft may be opened or closed to accommodate the desired amount of material and to clamp it firmly inplace. After the goods have been properly displayed, which can be done by mounting the shaft in its bearings and unrolling the goods upon it, it may afterward be rolled up and placed in a case or protective covering and transferred to any suitable position of support. Thus any desired quantity of goods may be disposed upon a number of these rolls and readily stored or exhibited.

Having thus described my invention what I claim and desire tosecure by Letters Patent is 1. A display device for curtains and piece goods, said device consisting of a longitudinally divided roller between the parts of which a number of curtains may be placed, clamps by which the two parts of the roller are locked together to hold the curtains, and screws passing through the clamps having their ends contacting with one of the parts of the roller whereby the parts of said roller may be opened or closed to accommodate different amounts of material.
