CURTAIN-FIXT URE.

Be it known that I, JOSEPHINE WERNER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Baltimore, in the State of Maryland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Curtain-Fixtures; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention relates to curtain fixtures and more particularly to that variety wherein pins, rings and other special securing devices are wholly dispensed with and my prime object is to provide a curtain supporting appliance which will be found to be thoroughly reliable and efficient in holding the curtain or curtains in an adjusted position and whereby the curtains may be very quickly removed and replaced at pleasure with a minimum amount of labor.

Other objects and advantages will be hereinafter clearly set forth, pointed out in the claim and illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which,

Figure 1 shows my invention complete as applied to use. Fig. 2 shows an end section of my curtain securing appliance in its operative position and ready for engagement with the curtain. Fig. 3 shows a View of the opposite end of my curtain supporting appliance from that illustrated in Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a sectional view of my curtain supporting appliance. Fig. 5 is a detail view showing a longitudinal section of a portion of my curtain holding appliance. Fig. 6 is a perspective detail view of the free end of my curtain holding member, and, Fig. 7 shows a detail of an employed or different form of construction of the central anchoring rib or member.

For convenience of reference to the various details of my invention and cooperating accessories numerals will be employed, the same numeral applying to a corresponding part in the several views.

In materializing my invention I provide any suitable form of body portion or housing as indicated by the numeral 1 which in this instance may be very readily and cheaply formed of suitable material and is adapted to be secured in position upon the top of the window, door opening or the like where it is desired that curtains are to be mounted. At one end of the housing 1, I secure in any preferred Way as by the hinges 2, the cross head 3 to which I permanently secure in any preferred manner a pair of parallel bars or rods =1 of any suitable material While to the opposite ends of said rods or parallel members I secure the cross head 5 which has upon its outer side any suitable form of catch or staple 6 designed to cooperate with the securing member properly connected in position upon the end of the housing 1, as indicated by the numeral 8. The member 7 is provided with a slot to receive the staple 6 which latter projects through said slot and is adapted to receive the hook 9 carried by the chain 10, as clearly shown in Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawings. The chain is of suificient length to permit the parallel rod sections to hang downward sufficiently below the housing as indicated by the dotted lines in Fig. 1 to readily permit the curtain to be placed over the same when by directing upward the free end of said parallel rods and securing said end as by the member 7, the curtains will be securely held in their adjusted positions upon said parallel members inasmuch as they are forced upward of either side of the rib or bar 11 carried by the housing and permanently secured thereto in such a position that the lower tapered edge thereof will fit tightly between the said members 4:, as clearly shown in Fig. 4 of the drawings.

In some instances I provide upon the lower edge of the member 11 a plurality of points 12 to frictionally engage the curtain whereby they will be more reliably held against casually slipping out of an adjusted position. I reserve the right however, to wholly dispense with the points 12 in which case the tapered edge of the member 11 will be left wholly smooth for wedging tightly between the members 4 and thereby prevent-- ing the curtain from moving out of an adjusted position.

It will thus be seen that I have provided a thoroughly reliable and eflicient securing appliance for holding window curtains, portieres and the like in an adjusted position and at the same time most readily permitting the curtains to be removed as when it is desired to clean the same or for other purposes and while I have described the preferred construction and combination of parts I desire to comprehend such substantial equivalents thereof as may be considered as falling fairly in the scope of my invention.

lVhat I claim is The herein described curtain securing appliance comprising a suitable housing, a rib section rigidly secured to and carried by said housing, a movable member comprising a pair of parallel bars adapted to fit snugly on either side of said member, suitable means to pivotally connect said bars to the housing, and additional means to removably sbecure and release the opposite end of said 10 ars.
