Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern- Be it known that 1, MAX HOROVICH, a citizen of the United States, and residing at Bronx, New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Clothes-Line Supports, of which the following is a specification, such as will enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to devices for securing clothes lines, and particularly to devices of this class such as are usually employed in connection with window frames and endless clothes lines, mounted on a pulley supported at a distance from the window, and on a pulley with which the window or the line attaching device is provided; and the object of the invention is to provide a device of this class which is simple in construction, comparatively inexpensive, and easy of operation, and the use of which will avoid the serious accidents which sometimes accompany the use of clothes lines of the class specified or the manipulation thereof.

The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification of which the accompanying drawing forms a part, and in which the separate parts of my improvement are designated by suitable reference characters in each of the views, and in which Figure 1 is a sectional view showing one side of a window frame andmy improvement applied thereto, and also showing the method of the operation thereof, and Fig. 2 an outside view showing the device when not in use, and with part of the construction broken away or in section.

In the drawing forming a part of this specification, I have shown at a one side of a window frame, and at a the sill thereof, and said side of the frame is provided with the usual inner and outer beads or strips 5 and b and a central head or strip 6 forming vertical spaces 7) and 6 in which the lower and upper sashes are mounted, said sashes being not shown.

In the practice of my invention I provide a line attaching device comprising, a bar a which is adapted to be secured to the frame a outside of the strip 6 by screws 0 and t0 the bottom portion of which is pivoted as shown at 0 an arm d the free end portion of which is provided with an outwardly directed support (Z in which is mounted a pulley 6 around which the line f is passed, and the free end portion of the arm (Z is also provided with a handle 9.

Secured to the outer side of the bar 0 is a keeper h which projects transversely of the window, and in which is an opening it, and secured to the arm (l is a supplemental arm 2' which in the form of construction shown in Fig. 1., consists of a curved and elastic or resilient spring rod which passes through the opening h", and the arm 6 is provided with a head 2' inwardly of which are ratchet-teeth 2' adapted to engage the upper wall of the opening If in the keeper k. and these ratchet teeth i in the form of construction shown extend around the arm i, but this construction of said teeth is not absolutely necessary.

It will be understood that the line f is also supported by another pulley mounted at a distance from the window and the operation of my improvement will be readily understood from the foregoing description when taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, and the following statement thereof. Whenever it is desired so to do the arm d may be swung into the position shown in Fig. 2, and both the sashes in the window may be raised and lowered as will be readily understood but Whenever it is desired to use the device, or place arti cles on the line to be dried, or remove articles from the line when dry, the bottom sash is raised and the arm (l is swung inwardly as shown in Fig. 1. This operation brings the pulley e and the line inwardly of the window, and the line may be pulled around the pulley and articles to be dried placed on the line in the usual manner, and without danger to the operator who does not have to lean out of the window in performing the above operation, and it'will also be understood that articles may be removed from the line in the same manner all that is necessary being to reverse the movement of the line on the pulley or pulleys, it being understood that the line may be pulled around the pulley or pulleys in either direction by hand.

Having fully described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is A Window line attaching device comprising, a bar adapted to be secured to a side of a Window frame, a main arm pivoted to the bottom portion of said bar and a supplemental spring arm connected With the main arm centrally thereof, and movable through a keeper connected With said bar centrally thereof, said supplemental arm and said keeper being provided With means for holding the main arm in a predetermined position and the free end portion of the main arm being provided With a pulley.
