Beit known that I, VFREDERICK SCHIMPER,

a citizen of thev United States, residing the town of-Union, county 'ofl Hudson, and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and Improved Shoe-Cleaner, ofl which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to a shoe cleaner of -nove'l construction which is carried by the soil into the body of the vehicle, especially when stepping tively obviated.

In the accompanying drawing: Figure 1 is a perspective view of part of an automobile provided with a pair of shoe cleaners embodying my invention; Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section through one of the cleaners, and Fig. 3 is a cross section thereof.

A foot board such as the running board 10 of an automobile is rovidedat each side ci.E the car door 11 w1th a slot or oblong opening 12 belowl which there is secured to the running board a frame 13 having a corresponding opening 14 and secured to the lower side of the running board by screws 1 5. Frame 13 has a pair of depending longitudinal flanges or bearings 16 and also if desired, a pair of depending transverse anges 17.l

In flanges 16 are journaled the shafts 18 of a plurality of cylindrical brushes 19 placed at such an elevation as tov protrude for some distance above the face of the running board. Brushes 19 are preferably arranged at such proximity to each other that their bristles slightly overlap, so that the brushes will during action mutually clean each other. The. bristles 22' of Vthe `two side brushes, extend upwardly and inwardly in an oblique direction, so'as to'project over the ends of the cylindrical brushes 19.

On entering the car, the passenger steps on the cleaners constructed as described, and by passing his feet over the same a few times will effectively clean the soles and sides of his shoes. In this wayno dirt will be carried in to the vehicle, while the loosened dirt will fall through slots 12, 14 between brushes 19, down upon the roadbed, so that'the running board is not in any way soiled.

I claim:

1. A foot board having a slot, a slotted and a pair of side brushes extending overthe ends of the cylindrical brushes.

2. A foot board having 'a slot, a slotted frame secured to said board and having depending bearings, and a plurality of cylindrical brushes journaled in said bearings, adjoining brushes overlapping each other along their working faces.

3. A foot board having a slot, a slotted frame secured to said board and having depending bearings, pockets in the frame at the sides of the bearings, a plurality of cylindrical brushes journaled in the bearings, and a pair of side brushes fitted in the pockets, and projecting over the ends of the cylindrical brushes.
