COMBINED FOOT WIPER AND SCRAPER.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 259,818, dated June 20, 18 82,

To all whom. it may concern Be it known that I, ALFRED S. CLARK, of

New Orleans, in the parish of Orleans and State of Louisiana, have invented a new and Improved Uombined Foot Wiper and Scraper, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

The object of the invention is to so connect the scraper and brushes with a base-support that they may be brought into as small a space as possible and yet each one successively reached, as hereinafter described.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.

Figure l is a perspective view of my improved combined foot wiper and scraper. Fig. 2 is a plan view ofthe same, showing the swingin g brushes separated. Fig. 3 is a cross-sectional elevation of the same on the line 00 at, Fig. 2.

Two brushes, A, are pivoted by pintles O at their ends to a base-board, B, in such a manner that the backs of the brushes face each other and the longitudinal edges ofthe brushes rest on the base-board. The pivoted ends of these brushes are separated a distance about equal to the length of an ordinary shoe-brush. The upper ends of the pintles 0 pass into and support a brush, D, the bristles of which project downward, and on the top of this brush D a foot-scraper, E, is secured, the edge of this scraper projecting upward from the outer edge of this brush D, and above the bristles of a brush, F, secured on the top of the brush D, with the bristles projecting upward. Two check-blocks, G, are secured on the base B, adjoining the outer surfaces of the brushes A, and at the ends of the same, for the purpose of preventing the swinging ends ofthese brushes moves the coarser particles of dirt and mud,

and the brush F removes the finer particles and wipes the sole. To clean the top or the boot or shoe, the front or the end of the foot is passed under the brush D and pressed and rubbed against the bristles ofv the same. To clean the sides of the boot or shoe the same is rubbed against the bristles of the brushes A A, the left sides of the feet being brushed against the right-hand brush, and the right sides of the feet being brushed against the lefthand brush.

The brushes A are pivoted so that they can be separated to permit passing the foot between them under the brush F; but when the sides of the boot or shoe are to be brushed the free ends of the brushes must be brought together, so that the foot need only to be turned slightly to pass from one brush A to the other.

claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The base B, combined by means of the pintles O O with the side brushes, AA, and scraper carrying double brush D, whereby the scraper and brushes may be held in the relative positions shown and the side brushes may be turned, as described.
