TOOL FOR BENDING- PIPE.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, HARRY E. HARMER and lVILLIAM M. VVYLLIE, subjects of the King of England, residing at Calgary, in the Province of Alberta and Dominion of Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tools for Bending Pipe, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in pipe benders and more particularly to that class of benders used to bend conduit for electrical purposes.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which will possess advantages in points of efficiency, durability, is inexpensive of manufacture and at the same time is simple in construction and operation.
With the above and other objects in view the invention consists in the novel features of construction and the combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter described, pointed out in the claim and shown in the accompanying drawings in which,

Referring to the drawings 1 indicates the sectional clamp comprising the two members 2 and 3 hinged together by means of the knuckles 4 formed on each of the members and a bolt 5 passing therethrough. Each section is provided with a semicircular groove 6, which, when the two sections are closed forms a circular opening as shown in Fig. 2. Hinged to the free edge of one of the sections is a locking member 7, said locking member being hinged to the section 2 by means of the knuckle 8 and the bolt 9 passing therethrough. The locking member 7 is provided with a longitudinal groove 10 adapted to receive the projecting flange 11 formed on the free edge of the section 3. Formed integral with the section 2 is a socket 12 having its interior threaded as shown at- 13 and suitable handle 14 is threaded into said socket so that the clamp can be easily handled. ing at its outer end. It will be seen that by having the depression formed in each end of the groove 6 of the section 2 the pipe when bent will tend to bend circularly instead of angularly thereby the pipe can be curved as much as is desired.
The operation of our improved pipe bender will be fully understood from the following description taken in connection with Fig. 1. The clamp is locked upon the pipe at the point where the pipe is to be bent and the operator places his foot on the pipe at point A to hold the same firmly, the operator then grasps the handle and pulls toward him bending the pipe as much as he desires.
While we have shown and described the preferred form of our invention it will be obvious that various changes in the details of construction and in the proportions may be resorted to for successfully carrying our invention into practice without sacrificing any of the novel features or departing from the scope thereof.
Having thus described the invention, we claim:
A pipe bender comprising two hingedly connected clamping members, said members having semi-circular grooves formed in their inner face, the concave face of one of said grooves being cut away at its ends to form depressions gradually widening at their outer ends, a locking member hinged to the outer edge of one of said clamping members and extending longitudinally the full length thereof, said locking member having a longitudinal groove formed therein, the other of said clamping members having anoutwardly extending flange formed on its free edge and adapted to be disposed in the groove in the first clamping member, a threaded socket formed on the exterior of one of said clamping members, and a handle threaded into said socket to manipulate said clamping member.
