Seats for Pianos, Sewing-Machines, &c., of
which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
ThlS lnventlon relates to stools or seats for use-1n connectlon with sewing machmes,
' pianos, work tables, .and the like, and the principal object of the same is to provide a stool orseat that can be pivotally connected to the sewing machine and which can be vertically adjusted, and which is capable of being folded under the machine when not in use so that the seat will not be in the way.
A preferred and practical embodiment of the invention is shown in the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a View in side elevat-ion'showing-the improved stool attached to a stand or table. Fig. 2 is a similar view showing the stool folded. Fig. 3 is a view in side elevation, partly broken-away, showing the manner of adjusting the stool relative to the stand or table to which it is attached. Fig.
4 is a fragmentary view in elevation showing the manner of pivotally connecting the links to the standard. Fig. 5 is a fragmentary bottom plan view of the seat of the stool. Fig. 6 is a fragmentary view in rear elevation ofthe base of the stool. Fig. 7 is a fragmentary view in front elevation of the means for pivoting the stool to a stand or table.
The improved stool comprises a hollow, internally threaded tubular standard 6 that has a coupling 7 at its lower end from which the angular feet 8 depend and which have enlarged and preferably circular bases 9, so that they will rest firmly on the floor. An
externally threaded seat post 10 telescopes with standard 6 and has an enlarged head 11 at its upper end that carries a fiat and preferably circular flange 12. A seat 13 has one leaf 14 of a spring hinge firmly fastened to its under surface, the other leaf l5 having its free edge fastened to flange 12 by the bolts 16 andnjats 17. The bolts 16 project above the flange 12 and form a fulcrum for the seat 13 to be rocked upon, as indicated by dotted lines in Fig. 3 of the accompanying drawings. A pair of links 18 have laterally projectingistuds 19 adjacent their rear ends which pivotally engage opposite sides of the lower portion of standard 6. The forward ends of said links are connected by a transverse sleeve 20 through which a shaft- 21 extends that is adapted to be connected to the feet 22 of the legs 22 of a stand or table 23, as is shown in Fig. 1. At intermediate points, the link 18 are connected by a transverse rod 24. rounds the lower portion of standard 6 and A band 25 surrests on the coupling 7. The ends of the band 25 form laterally projecting cars 26 to which one end of an adjusting bar 27 is pivotally connected. Adjusting bar 27 projects between the link 18 and has its free portion provided with regularly spaced transverse notches 28 adapted for selective engagement with the rod 24.
It will be understood from the foregoing that the seat 13 can beadjnsted vertically relative to standard 6 and that the spring hinge connection between flanges 12 and said seat permits the seat to rock relative to said flange. It will also be clear that the manner of pivotally connecting the standard 6 to the stand or table 23, readily permits the stool to be folded under said stand, and that the stool can be adjusted toward or from the stand or table, andlockcd in the desired position by the bar 27 and rod 24.
lVhat we claim as our invention is A stool comprising a standard, supporting feet connected thereto and extending at right angles to said standard, said feet being provided with an enlarged head at their lower end, an adjustable post positioned in said standard, links connected to said standard intermediate its ends, and connected at their other ends to a support, a transverse pin connecting said links intermediate their ends, an adjusting bar; a collar carried by said standard, said adjusting bar pivotally connected to said collar, and being provided with a plurality of notches upon the under side'thereof, and a seat connected to said adjustable post, and said seat being adapted to be raised and folded under a machine or other article supporting the same by raising the top of said seat and placing the foot against said standard below the connection of said links with said standard.
