CASK AND BARREL STAND.
' Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 14, 1912.
" Application filed April 25, 1911. Serial No. 623,186.
. To all whom it may concern: I I
Be it known that I, MAX ROGLER, residing at Dusseldorf, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cask and Barrel Stands, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
The present invention relates to a stand for casks' and barrels 'and the like, such ele ments being supported in the improved stand by means of rollers allowing thenr to be easily turned about their axes and emptied through the bung-hole. A ladder-is fitted in the stand so as to allow of being drawn out to a certain extent at both ends of the stand. This ladder serves in the first place as a means for rolling the casks and the like up on the stand, and in the second place to support'receptacles into which the contents of the casks are to be transferred.
In the accompanying drawings-the invention is illustrated, Figures 1 and 2 represent ing side views of the arrangement in different operative positions, and Fig. 3, a view of one of the supporting rollers on an enlarged scale.
The stand is composed of a frame 6 made of channeled iron bars, said frame being supported on'legs a. On both side members of the frame rollers a, connected to brackets, are arranged in pairs so as to serve assupports for the casks. A ladder f is slidably held between the side members of the frame 6. This ladder is adapted to be drawn out at both ends of the frame, either to serve as an incline, as shown in Fig. 1, for rolling the cask up on the stand, or to serve as a support, as shown in Fig. 2, for vessels into Which the contents of the casks are to be transferred. Suitable stops on the ladder prevent the same from being entirely withdrawn from the frame.
Itwill be seen that by making the lateral member 6, from channel iron,,I can conveniently use the groove 5 thereof, of each lateral member I), to form a slideway for the ladder f so that when the latter is not in use it can be completely inclosed within the ends and sides of the supporting frame;
Casks or barrels of Wood or iron are rolled up on the stand, as shown in Fig. 1 and arranged so as to be supported by the rollers c.
.Thereupon the bung is removed from its hole and replaced by a suitable spout. When it is desired to draw from the contents of the cask,-the receptacles to receive such contents are arranged, according as they arelarge or.
small, in anyof the positions shown, Whereupon' the cask is turned on the rollers c, so-
that the transfer of the contents can take place through the bung hole.- This opera tion, as well as the placing of the cask on the stand, ean'easily be effected by one man alone, All kinds of liquid viscous substances, such as oil, varnish, tar and the like, can be dispensed with greater facilityin this manner than by means 'of pumps or taps. No dripping takes place, and the expenses incurred in the acquisition of taps and pumps are obviated. Since, the liquid runs quickly through the bung-hole, there is no need, as in the ease oftaps, to leave the cask alone while the liquid is running. An
overfiow of the liquid, owing to forgetful ness or inattention, is therefore avoided. A more complete emptying of the cask can be effected "through the bung-hole than through other parts of the cask, and the latter can easily be turned for that purpose to get the bung-hole at the lowest position. The casks are held by the rollers in elevated position so that drip-trays and receptacles can be dis,- posed underneath.
The cost of the improved stand is compensated for by the saving of other materials and of labor which it brings about! Having thus fully described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secureby Letters Patent of United States is 1. In a device of the character described, the combination with a main frame of suiticient length to support at least two barrels, rotating mechanisms onsaid frame for supporting said barrels and permitting rotation thereof, and an element movably supported on said frame and adapted to be projected from either end to form an incline on which the barrels may be rolled up on the frame or a support for a receptacle to be filled from the frame.
2. In a. device of the characterdescribed.
the combination with a main frame proi vided with interior grooved portions longi-f tudmally disposed thereon, means disposed on said frame for rotatively supporting a In testimony whereof I afiix my signature ba l-Pol, and m elongated ladder-like element in the presence of two witnesses. shdable 1n snld grooves and adapted to be MAX ROGLER. [11. s]
projected from either end of said frame to 5 form an incline for rolling the barrels on to XVii'nesses:
the support or a support to be filled from the Amman .HEN KIGL, ban-e1. A. PASEN.
