POPCORN-POPPER.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, ELBERT N. Pnnnnn- GRAFT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Seligman, in the county of Barry, State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Popcorn- Poppers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to new and useful improvements in pop corn peppers and more particularly to that class generally known as rotary pop corn peppers.

An object of this invention is the provision of a frame having a handle secured thereto, a receptacle rotatably mounted in said frame and means for causing the rotation of this said receptacle.

A further object of this invention is to improve and simplify devices of this character rendering them comparatively simple and inexpensive to manufacture, reliable and efficient in use and readily operated.

lVith the above and other objects in view this invention resides in the novel features of construction, formations, combinations and arrangements of parts, to be herein after more fully described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of my improved pop corn popper. Fig. 2 is a top plan view thereof. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal sectional view taken on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a transverse sectional view taken on the line 44 of Fig. 1. Fig. 5 is a similar view taken on the line 5--5 of Fig. 1, and Fig. 6 is a view illustrating a modified form of the receptacle closure.

Referring to the accompanying drawings by similar characters of reference throughout the several views, the numeral 10 designates generally my improved pop corn popper which consists of an invertedU- shaped frame 11 provided in the terminals of its legs 12 with apertures 13 and 14. The aperture 14 is considerably larger than the aperture 13 and internally threaded for engagement with a tubular handle 15 provided at its outer end with a suitable hand grip 16.

The end 20 of the receptacle 21 is formed preferably of sheet metal and is connected to a ring 24 which is held in spaced relation thereto by a reticulated netting 25. The end 20 has secured thereto a plurality of rods 26, each of which extends in parallel relation to the pin 17 anda point beyond the ring 24 to which ring each of the said rods are rigidly secured. The terminals of the rods 26 are then bent inwardly at right angles thereto, as at 27 in substantially radial relation to the pin 17, supporting at their terminals a bearing block 28.

A shaft 29 extends through the bearing block 28 and tubular handle 15 and is formed at its outer terminal with a crank arm 30 provided with an operating handle 31 by means of which the said shaft 29 may be rotated. This shaft 29 is slidable longitudinally of the handle 15 and has keyed to its inner end a closure plate 32. This plate 32 is provided at its periphery with eyes 33 for engagement with the rods 26, whereby upon the rotation of the shaft the receptacle 21 will be rotated.

The periphery of the disk 23 has also secured thereto inwardly extending clips 34 for engagement with the ring 22 whereby when the handle is grasped by the operator and the shaft forced inwardly, the said clips will serve to retain the closure 23 upon the open end of the receptacle 21. Manifestly when the handle grip 16 is grasped by the operator and the shaft 19 pulled in an opposite direction by means of the crank arm 30 the closure will be removed from the receptacle 21 which permits the removal of the contents thereof.

Referring more particularly to Fig. 6 of the drawings, which illustrates a modified form of my invention, the closure 34 is of skeleton formation comprising a central plate 35 to which the shaft 29 is secured 36 is bent outwardly to form eyes 39 and inwardly to form spring clips 40, similar to the before mentioned slips 34.

From the foregoing disclosures taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, it Will be manifest that a pop corn popper is provided for which Will fulfil all the necessary requirements of such a device.

Having thus fully described this invention What I claim as new and desire to obtain by Letters Patent, is

r 1. The combination in a pop corn popper such as described, of a frame, a receptacle rotatable therein, a handle extending from the frame, a shaft rotatable and slidable through said. handle, a closure for the receptacle secured to the shaft and operated thereby and guides formed upon the receptacle for engagement with the closure.

2. The combination in a pop corn popper such as described, of a U-shaped frame, a

pin extending from one leg of the U-shaped frame, a tubular handle extending from the opposite leg of the U-shaped frame, a shaft rotatable in said tubular handle, a receptacle carried by the tubular handle and supported by the pin, and a closure for the said receptacle slidable upon the shaft.

3. The combination in a pop corn popper, of a U-shaped frame, a pin secured to one leg of the U-shaped frame and extending inwardly therefrom, a tubular handle secured to the opposite leg of the U-shaped frame and extending outwardly therefrom, shaft rotatably mounted and longitudinally movable Within the tubular handle, a receptacle closed at one end and secured to the said pin, guides extending from the receptacle and secured to the tubular handle, a closure secured to the shaft, eyes formed upon the closure and slidably engaging the guides and clips carried by the closure for engaging the receptacle and preventing the displacement of the closure therefrom.
