To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, qWALTER H. Primi-ins,
` a citizen of the United States, residing at Vatei-tow'n, in the county of Jefferson and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements ,in Ls, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in Ls, designed for use in connection with various sanitary appliances, and the invention relates particularly to Ls for receiving the waste and ovenow from bath-tubs,
sinks and the like.
The features and parts ofntlie invehtibii will be understood from the detailed def 'thelike, consisted of two or more parts,
which were made separately and then fastened together by various means for making up the'complete devices. To make, assemble and linish the several parts under the older styles of over-flow Ls requires considerable time, labor and material, which necessarily increases the cost of the production of the said devices, and besides most of the said fittings are Vmore or less complicated and.
clumsy.
It is an object of the present invention to provide over-flow Ls for use in connection with bath and sink xtures, wherein4 the L consists of but a single part, which is;
formed up by means of suitable dies and tools, whereby 1 am able to' produce Ls of f the class, which are lighter', stronger and simpler, and which can be made at smaller cost, than any of the older devices known to me.

To adapt my improved L for use in con-` nection with the over-flow of bath-tubs and sinks, I provide, by means of spinning or rolling, a plain land comparatively narrow c `iiresponding bead or rib 13 around the inner surface of the body, just back of, and concentric to the liaiige 3 ot the L. The overf fiow L is generally attached to thev vessel by means of a bolt 14 which pierces a strainer 15, then passes through a hole in the wall of the vessel 6, and is screwed into a bridge 16, which is disposed diametrically across the interior of the body of the L.' .The bridge 16 has a length equal to the largest diameter of the body of the L, and is preferably disposed behind tl'ie rib 13, which serves as a stop, for preventing the bridge from being accidentally displaced or pulled out through 'the mouth of the L, when the bolt 14 is screwed in to clamp the parts to the vessel.
AAfter the bridge is`placed in position', its
opposite ends areusually soldered to the walls of the body 2. By the provision of the inwardly facing rib 13, the bridge 16 may be made out of narrow strip of sheet metal, which may be i'eadily'and securely applied to the L.
Under my improved construction and arrangement, the body of the L may be made of lighter gage of metal, and yet have the .same or even greater strength, than where two or more separate-parts are joined together. Aside from the feature of constructing the L ,in one part, a peculiarly 75 semi-circular groove 12, which produces a l novel and valuable feature of the L of the present invention consists in providing the integral rib 13, which affords, novel, simple and eective means for connecting the securing devices or parts directly to the body of the L.

Having described my invention and set forth its merits what I claim is l. A wrought metal L, comprising a holloW body having a Haring mouth surrounded by a dished flange, and having the metal of the body adjacent the said flange depressed inwardly to form a Conca-vo-convex rib, the said rib encircling the interior of the body and having a less diameter-than the said mouth and adapted to prevent the accidental withdrawal of part-s connected to said body.
2. An L, comprising a Wrought metal body, having a circular mouth and a laterally drawn tubular neck and a part of the metal of the body between the said mouth and the said neck depressed inwardly to form an internal annular rib, and a bridge capable of being disposed diametrically 1n the said body and to be held from displacement by said rib.
