Description

J. Y. KLINE.
LIFTING JACK.
APPLICATION FILED APR. 26, 1911.'
1 ,O24,860-, Patented Apr. 30, 1912.
WITNESSES INVENTOR UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
Jason Y. mania, or mom, rmsnvmm Lrrrrmaucx.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed April 26, 1911. Serial 1Io. 883,887.
' Patented inn-.30, 1912.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JACOB Y. KLINE, a
citizen of the United "States, residing at Florin, in the county of Lancaster and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Lifting-Jacks, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to a lifting jack of that class intended for use in lifting vehicles, etc., and also as a press for pressing the stroke of the lever, but which is capable of varying adjustme t or throw.
Still another object of the invention is toso construct the jack that the load may be,
gradually lowered and not allowed to drop as is the case in many frictional jacks.
With-these and other. objects in view, my invention consists in certain construction and combination of parts as will hereinafter 'be fully desciibed and claimed in the accompanying drawings which form a part of this application, and in which like figures of reference refer to corresponding parts in all of the views; 'but itis fully understood.
that while Lliave here described my invention as shown, that I do not confine myself to the exact design, as slight changes may be made in the construct-ion and arrangement of the several parts without departing from thespirit of the invention.
In the drawings :'Figure 1, is a side elevation of the jack showing the hand lever in position for raising, and the position of the same at the end of the stroke is indicated in dotted lines. Fig. 2, is a rear end elevation of the same. Fig. 3, is a top plan view partly in section, taken on the line X-X of Fig. 1. Fig. 4, is an enlarged detail sectional View of the. bracket and friction links.
Referring to the drawings, the device comprises a standard 1, to which is secured a base 2, and a bracket member 3. Said bracket 3, is formed with a guide arm 4, having an orifice'in axial relation with the pipe standard 1, to reeeive'the lifting bar 5.
The bracket- 3, is further provided with a lug 6, upon which is pivoted by the pin 7,
the bifurcated end 8, of a hand lever 9. The
lifting bar 5, is movably mounted in the standard 1, and guide arm 4, and has se cured upon the upper end thereof a bearing cap 10.
Upon the lifting bar 5, between the guide arm 4, and the upper end of the standard 1,
are mounted the frictional lifting link 11, and the check link 12. The lifting link 11, is formed with a projection 13, for engagement by the ends 8, of'the hand lever; and
also has the finger ears 14, which embrace the sides of the bracket '3, and serve as a guide for said link. The check link 12, is formed with a bifurcated end 15, for engaging the sides of the bracket 3, near the arm 4, and which rest upon the shoulders 16, formed on said bracket 3, to prevent the link from slipping downward, but allowmg it to rock; the forward end of said check link 12, being provided with a pair of finger cars 17, similar to those on the lifting link 11. On the up stroke of the hand lever 9, the check link 12, will frictionally grip the lifting bar 5, by reason of its gravity and hold the lifting bar 5, from lowering until released by lifting the-ears '17, with the operators fingers. On' the down stroke of the hand lever 9, the end 8, engages the projection 13, of the link 11, which has descended by gravity to its low est position allowed by the end 8, of the hand lever 9, and raises the lifting bar 5, by the frictional grip of said lifting link 11, onsaid' bar; the operation being repeated for each stroke of the hand lever. "For letting down the load, the lifting linkll, is raised by the operators fingers .to the positions indicated by the dotted In a lifting jack of the as. described,
the combination with a hollow standard and base formed with a bracket and guide arm and having a lifting bar movably mounted in said standard and guide arm, of a check link mounted on said lifting bar adjacent to said guide arm and formed with a bifurcated end engaged by said 11 bracket, shoulders formed on said bracket for engaging the bifurcated end ofsaid check link and limiting the downward said hand lever for engaging the projection movement of the same, aliftin link mount on said link for lifting the same. 10 ed on said lifting bar below said check link, In testimony whereof I affix my sign'asaid liftin link formed with a bifurcated ture in presence of two witnesses.
end engaging saidbracket to prevent said JACQB Y. KLINE. link from turning, a projection formed on Witnesses: said link, a hand lever pivoted to said WM. J. GoUUrnR,
bracket, and a bifurcated end formed on JOHN J. THOMPSON.
