Description
(NoModeL) J. B. BELONG.
LIFTING JACK.
No. 498,246. I Patented May 30, 1893.
TZCJZZ UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JACOB B. DELONG, OF BLANCHARD, PENNSYLVANIA.
Ll FTING-JACK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 498,246, dated May 30, 1893.
Application filed March 30, 1893. Serial No. 468,277. (No model.)
To all whom iv may concern.-
Be it known that I, JACOB B. DELONG,'a citizen of the United States, residing at Blanchard, in the county of Centre and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Lifting-Jacks;
and I do hereby declare that the following isa full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
The present invention has for its object to provide a simple and practically operating lifting jack in which the parts are connected.
together and independent of the standard whereby they can be readily disconnected and removed therefrom should necessity require it for mending or replacing any part with a new one or for the purpose of packing and transportation.
A further object of the invention is to improve the jack in its operating parts so that it will possess strength and durability and its leverage power be increased.
These several objects I attain by a lifting jack constructed substantially as shown in the drawings and hereinafter described and claimed.
Figure 1 of the drawings represents a perspective view of my improved jack; Fig. 2 a side elevation thereof.
In the accompanying drawings A represents a suitable standard having teeth a and detaehably connected to a suitable base B by the boltb or by any other preferred and well known means.
The operating parts of the jack which are removably connected to the standard, consist in part of the sleeve 0 through which the standard passes, said sleeve having ears 0 between which is pivoted a weighted pawl D to engage the teeth on the standard. To the sleeve 0 is suitably pivoted a bar E and to one end of this bar is pivoted one end of a similar bar F and these bars are pivoted rethe standard. The guide loop I is disposedat an angle with the support K, so that when the lever H is raised the support will assume the position shown in Fig. 2 to better support the axle and prevent the parts from slipping when further raising the lever.
When the jack is placed in position so as to bring the support K on line under the axle, the sleeve 0 is adjusted on the standardA in order to bring the support in contact with the axle, said sleeve being held in its adjusted position by means of the weighted pawl D. The lever G is now depressed as shown in Fig. 2 which will force up the support K and raise the axle toadmit the removal of the Wheel therefrom or for other purposes.
Having now fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A lifting-jack, consisting of a suitable toothed standard, a sleeve having a weighted pawl pivoted thereto, an operating lever, and a lever having at its upper end a support and a guide-loop at an angle thereto, and a pivoted link connection between the levers and also pivoted to the sleeve, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
JACOB B. DELONG.
Witnesses:
