UNITED STATES PATENT GFFICE.
GEORGE WIRSING, OF BALTIMORE, MARYLAND.
SIGN-SUPPORT.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE WVIRsING, a citizen of the United States, residing at Baltimore, in the State of Maryland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sign-Supports; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in sign supports, and has for an object to provide a device of this character in which the nailing of the sign to a bracket or the like may be dispensed with.
Another object of this invention is to improve and simplify devices of this character, rendering them comparatively simple and inexpensive to manufacture, reliable and efficient in use and readily operated.
With the above and other objects in view, this invention resides in the novel features of construction, formations, combinations and arrangements of parts to be hereinafter more particularly described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which-- Figure 1 is a side elevation of my invention; Fig. 2 is a section taken on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1, and Fig. 3 is a detail perspective View of a portion of the clamping members.
Referring to the drawing by characters of reference, the numeral 1 designates generally a sign or the like, upon which any printed matter may be displayed for advertising or any other desired purpose, the opposite sides and ends of which are rounded, as at 2, to provide a means for engaging the support 3. This sign support 3 consists of vertical and horizontal rails 4, each comprising a pair of clamping members 5, consisting of substantially rectangular-shaped bars 6, suit- Specification of Letters Patent.

ably apertured as at 7 for the reception of bolt-s or the like, whereby the opposite members of the said support may be retained together. The inner edges of these members are provided with half rounded clamping portions 8, adapted to engage the rounded edges 2 of the sign 1 and be securely held thereon against displacement. The inner surfaces of the half rounded members 8 are provided with suitable teeth 9, adapted to engage the rounded edges 2 of the sign 1 and hold the same more firmly against displacement.
Any suitable attachment may be secured to one of the rails of the sign support, whereby the said device may be suspended.
From the foregoing disclosure, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, it will be manifest that assign support is provided for which will fulfil all the necessary requirements of such a device.
Having thus fully described this invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
In a device of the character described, the combination with a panel, of a tubular, cylindrical bead formed about the edges of said panel, and a frame surrounding said panel comprising a plurality of rails, each rail composed of two members constructed of sheet metal having fiat abutting extensions, and coinciding semi-circular extensions for engagement with the bead of the panel, rivets piercing said flat extensions, and teeth formed on the interior of the semi-circular extensions.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
GEORGE WIRSING.
