LLOYD B. TAYLOR, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
TRAVELING-BAG FOR BOWLERS.
To all lwhom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LLOYD B. TAYLOR, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Traveling-Bags for Bowlers, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates in general to traveling-bags, and more particularly to a bag especially adapted for carrying a bowling ball and other accessories of a bowler.
An expert bowler prefers to always use his own ball, and hence must take it with him to the various places where yhe may desire to bowl. As a bowling ball is not a convenient article to carry, heretofore special cases of a size to closely surround a single ball have been sometimes used. This practice necessitates the bowler carrying a separate bag to hold his bowling shoes and other accessories.` The weight of a bowling ball prevents it being carried loosely in a bag of a size to also contain the other articles of a bowler.
The primary object of my invention 1s to provide a bag for the use of bowlers which will retain a bowling ball immovably therein so as to permit other articles to be also carried therein without the danger of injury either to them or to the ball which necessarily exists when a bowling ball is loosely contained in a bag.
A further object of my invention is to provide a bag forA the use of bowlers which may be simple in construction,'convenient in use, and inexpensive in manufacture.
My invention will be more fully disclosed hereinafter with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l is a central, lengthwise section through a bag embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a cross sectional view on line 9.-2, Fig. l. Fig. 3 is a view of a modication.
The same reference characters are used to designate similar parts in the several figures of the drawing.
Reference letter A designates a travelingbag having stiff and relatively immovable side, end and bottom walls.
Reference characters B B2 indicate the two sections of a hinged cover forming the entire top of the bag, which are hinged at Specification of Letters Patent.

their outer edges to the top edges of the side walls of the bag.
C designates a handle for carrying the bag, which is pivotally secured to the central portion of the section B2 of the cover. The section of the cover B2 overlaps at its central edge the central edge of the section B, as shown in Fig. 2. Suitable fastening devices D, D2 are provided for securing together the overlapped central edges of the sections of the cover. These fastenings may be of any suitable design, such, for instance, as a loop d connected to the central overlapping' edge of the section B2 and a cooperating clasp CZ2 secured to the section B of the cover. The overlapped central edges of the sections of the cover are fastened to the end walls of the bag by suitable fasteners, such, for instance, as shown in Fig. l, in which e, c2 designate studs projecting outwardly from the ends of the overlapping central edge of the section B2, which are engaged by clasps E', E2 secured to the end walls of the bag.
F indicates a circular ring rigidly secured concentrically within the bag, and preferably to the bottom thereof, which is of a size to receive a bowling ball G and ret-ain the same immovably within the bag.
In lieu of the circular ring F other suitable means may be provided for positively retaining the bowling ball against movement within the bag, such, for instance, as a series of curved spring fingers F, shown in Fig. 3. These spring fingers may conveniently be formed integrally and secured by a rivet to the bottom wall a of the bag.
By providing the bag with a cover which forms the entire top thereof, the bowling ball may be readily inserted within and removed from the bag, the space within the bag around the ball serving to permit the ball to be readily grasped in inserting and removing the same, and also serving to contain other articles useful to the bowler.
From the foregoing description, it will be observed that I have invented an improved bag for the use of bowlers, which will not only contain a bowling ball immovably therein, but will also permit other accessories of a bowler to be placed around the ball, thereby utilizing the space around the ball for containing articles, and when such articles are removed permitting the ball to be readily removed from the bag.
I Claim:
In a bag for Containing bowlers accessories, the combination with rigid end, side and bottom Walls, of a hinged cover forming the entire top of the bag, the Width of the bag being slightly greater than the diameter of a bowling ball, and means secured to the bottom of the bag at substantially the center 10 thereof for engaging a bowling ball and preventing its movement Within the bag.
In testimony whereof, I have subscribed my name.
