SANITARY ATTACHMENT FOR BATH-TUBS.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ARCHIE L. GROW, a citizen of the United States, residing at Beaumont, in the county of Butler and State of Kansas, have invented a new and useful Sanitary Attachment for Bath-Tubs, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to a sanitary attachment for bath tubs.
The object of the present invention is to provide a simple and comparatively inexpensive bath tub attachment, adapted to be readily applied to various bath tubs, and capable of lowering and elevating a leather within a bath tub to assist persons in entering and leaving the same, and of forming a support to permit a bather, after washing, to support himself in an elevated position above the water within the tub and use a spray without waiting for the water in the tub to run off, whereby a material saving in the time required to take a bath will be effected.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the construction and novel combination of part-s hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and pointed out in the claims hereto appended; it being understood that various changes in the form, proportion, size and minor details of construction, wit-hin the scope of the claims, may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.

In the preferred embodiment of the invention illustrated in the accompanying drawings, the attachment comprises in its construction a vertically movable supporting frame, composed of spaced transverse supports 1 and longitudinal connecting bars 2. Each transverse support consists of an intermediate U-shaped platform receiving portion 3 and vertical rods 4, connected at their upper ends with the U-shaped platform supporting portion 3 by curved bends 5, which arch the sides of a bath tub 6, the U-shaped supporting portions 3 being located within the bath tub and extending across the same, as clearly illustrated in Fig. 4: of the drawings. Each transverse support preferably consists of a single piece of metal, and the U-shaped supporting portion 3 and the bends 5 are preferably flattened, while the vertical rods 4:, which are located exteriorly of the tub, are round. The metal of the supports may of course be of any other desired shape. The side bars 2, which are located at opposite sides of the bath tub, are preferably curved or arched, as shown, and they are suitably secured at their ends to the lower terminals of the vertical rods or standards 4: of the transverse supports.
The supporting frame is slidably connected with the sides of the bath tub by means of opposite spring clamps 7, arranged at each side of the transverse supports and composed of a base or body portion and a pair of curved transversely disposed spring jaws 8, embracing the curved upper edge of the side of the bath tub and maintained in engagementwith the same by thumb screws 9, piercing the base of the spring clamps and engaging the lower face of the outwardly extending upper edge of the bath tub. The base of the spring clamp is provided with suitable threaded perforations to receive the thumb screws, which are arranged in the vertical planes of the jaws. The spring clamps are provided wit-h outwardly extending ears or flanges 10, having guide open ings 11 through which pass the vertical rods or standards l of the supporting frame.
Arranged on the vertical rods or standards of the supporting frame are coiled springs 12, suitably connected at their upper ends to the spring clamps, and secured at their lower ends to the terminals of the side bars of the supporting frame. These coiled springs are of sufficient strength to maintain the supporting frame in an elevated position and to support the weight of a person, and the supporting frame is moved downward against the action of the springs by operating mechanism to lower the bather within the bath tub, and when the supporting frame is released, the springs will operate to lift the same and the bather to the limit of the upward movement of the said frame and will support the bat-her in an elevated position,
The operating mechanism comprises in its construction a transverse rock shaft 13, extending beneath the bottom of the bath tub to the opposite sides thereof, and journaled in suitable bearings 14 of hanger rods 15 and provided with spaced rocker arms 16, located at opposite sides of the bath tub and connected with the arched side rods of the supporting frame by short links 17. The hanger rods 15 are approximately V'-shaped and are provided at their bottoms or angles with the said bearings 14. The terminals 15 of the hanger rods are bent horizontally and suitably secured to the spring clamps, which are connected and maintained in proper spaced relation by the hanger rods. The rocker arms 16 are located in approximately the same vertical planes as the arched side bars 2, and the links 17, which are disposed in pairs, are located at opposite sides of the rocker arms 16 and the side bars 2, and are pivoted at their ends to the same by pins 18 and 19, or other suitable pivots. When the supporting frame is at the limit of its vertical movement, the rocker arms and the links 17 are vertical, and the rock shaft is rotated one half of a revolution to lower the supporting frame to the limit of its downward movement, and the rocker arms then extend downwardly from the rock shaft and are arranged in a vertical position. The pivots 18 and 19 are located at the ends of the links 17 and are in alinement, and the links are provided adjacent to their upper ends with recesses 20, formed by off-setting the upper portions of the links, as clearly illustrated in Fig. 5 of the drawings, and adapted to receive the rock shaft and permit the upper and lower pivots to occupy positions above and below the rock shaft and in the vertical planes of the same so as to form a lock for holding the supporting frame in its depressed position. connect-ed by long links 22 with a short arm 23 of an operating lever 24:. The operating lever 24, which is mounted on a pivot 25 of a spring 26, is provided with a metal socket 27 in which is fitted a wooden handle or bar, but the operating lever may be constructed in any other preferred manner. The spring clamp 26 is constructed similarly to those heretofore described with the exception that it is provided with the pivot 25 instead of a guiding ear or flange, and it has spaced spring jaws and co-acting thumb screws 27. The pivot extends horizontally from the spring clamp, and in practice the operating lever and its connection with the rock shaft will be detachable to enable the operating mechanism to be applied to either side of a bath tub.
When the supporting frame is in an elevated position, the long arm of the operating lever is in an upright position, and it is adapted to be swung downward therefrom to a slightly inclined position, as illustrated in dotted lines in Fig. 1 of the drawings, to depress the supporting frame against the action of the coiled springs. The operating lever is secured in its lowered position by locking mechanism comprising a bracket 28, a spring actuated catch 29, and a curved link 30. The bracket consists of a fixed upright portion or standard, provided at the bottom with a base or attaching portion 31, which is detachably secured to the adjacent spring clamp 7. The upright portion or standard of the bracket carries a keeper 32, and it is provided with a vertical slot 33, through which the catch 29 projects. The catch 29 consists of a shank or attaching portion 34:, an outwardly projecting horizontal portion 35 and an upwardly and in- The lower attached end of the shank 34 of the catch is loosely arranged in a perforation of the bracket, and it is held therein by a spring 34?, secured at its lower end to the bracket and having its upper portion free and bearing against the shank of the catch and adapted to urge the latter to its engaging position. Any other form of spring catch }may of course be employed, and the catch may be mounted in any other desired mana ner. The horizontal and inclined portions of the catch extend through the slot 33, the horizontal portion forming a shoulder for engaging the upper side or face of the operating lever for holding the same against upward movement 1n the keeper.
The keeper, which is open at the top, is approximately L-shaped and consists of a long upright portion and a short horizontal connecting portion, extending inwardly from the lower end of the upright portion and suitably secured to the bracket. The operating lever swings downward into the space between the upright portion of the keeper and the uprightportion of the bracket, and the link 30 is composed of inner and outer sides, having angularly bent terminals extended inwardly and secured together and spacing the sides, which are located at the inner and outer faces of the upright portion of the bracket. The loop-shaped link, which may be constructed in any other manner, is pivoted at its outer end by a pin 37, or other suitable fastening device to the upper end of a lever 38, and it is pivoted at its other end to an arm 39 of an operating lever 40, fulcrumed on the bracket at a point above the catch by a pin 41, or other suitable fastening device and adapted to be oscillated to raise and lower the link for carrying the same into and out of engagement with the catch. When the link 80 is lowered, its inner side engages the upper end of the inclined portion of the catch and retains the latter in its engaging position. The link 30 is raised to release the catch, and the operating lever 40 -is provided with a short arm 42, extending in the opposite direction from the arm 39, and arranged to contact with the inclined portion of the catch, and it forces the same backwardly to release the main operating lever 24 when the link is raised. The operating lever of the locking mechanism is equipped with a pivoted dog or detent 43, arranged to engage a toothed segment 44 and connected with a latch lever 45, mounted on the operating lever of the locking mechanism adjacent to the handle or grip of the said lever 40. hen the main operating lever is released, the coiled springs operate to elevate the supporting frame. The lever 38, which is arranged in an inclined position, is fulcrumed at an intermediate point on the bracket by a pin 46, or other suitable pivot to form upper and lower arms, the upper arm supporting one end of the link 30, and the lower arm being connected with the rock shaft by ayieldable connection, consisting of upper and lower rods 47 and 48, and a cushioning device comprising a pair of overlapped relatively slidable bars 49, provided at their inner ends with heads 50 between which is interposed a coiled spring 51. The coiled spring 51 is disposed on the overlapped portions of the bars 49, which are connected at their outer ends to the adjacent terminals of the upper and lower rods 47 and 48. The lower rod is connected at its lower end to a short arm. 52 of the rock shaft, and when the operating lever of the locking mechanism is oscillated to release the main operating lever 24, the rock shaft is pulled upon through the said yieldable connection between the same and the lever 38 to assist the rotary movementof the shaft and cause an unlocking of the short links 17, which by reason of their vertical position with relation to the rock shaft, form a lock for retaining the supporting frame in its lowered position. The lever 38 is pivoted be tween the upright portion of the supporting bracket and an integral shank or attaching portion 53 of the toothed segment 44.
In practice the rock shaft will be equipped adjacent to each end with a short arm 52 to accommodate the locking mechanism, when the same is arranged at either side of the bath tub. hen the operating lever 40 of the locking mechanism is swung outward to the limit of its movement, it not only releases the lever 24 and oscillates the links 17, but the coiled spring 51 is placed under its greatest tension, so that when the rock shaft 18 has partially rotated from the position illustrated in full lines in Fig. 9 of the drawings to that shown in dotted lines, the said rock shaft will be held against further rotary movement for controlling the upward movement of the supporting frame and a removable platform carried by the same. By allowing the handle portion of the operating lever 40 to move forward slowly, the platform will be permitted to rise slowly and the lever may be locked at any notch in the toothed segment 44 for peri'nitting a partial upward movement of the platform and for locking the same at an intermediate point between the top and bottom of the bath tub.
The removable platform, which is carried by the supporting frame, is curved in cross section, and designed to support a pad 54 of rubber, or other suitable material, adapted. to present a soft surface to the bather. The platform is extensible and consists of a body portion and a hinged section 55, to which is connected a hinged head rest 56. The body portion is composed of overlapped bars 57 and 58, arranged in spaced relation and having inner overlapped portions, equipped with slides 59 and 60, each connected with the inner end of one of the bars 57 and 58 and slidably receiving the other bar. By this construction, the platform is adapted to be varied in length to suit bath tubs of different sizes. The bars 57 are con nected adjacent. to their outer ends by a curved transverse rod 61, passing through alined perforations in the said bars 57 and in reinforcing bars and receiving spacing sleeve 63, interposed between the bars 67. The outer portion of each of the bars 57 is reinforced by one of the bars 62 in order to provide a firm support for the hinged section The outer ends of the bars 58 are connected by a curved transverse rod 64 and are spaced apart by sleeves 65, mounted on the transverse rod 64.
The hinged section 55 tapers outwardly and is composed of spaced rods, connected adjacent to their inner ends to the outer ends of the bars 57 by pivots 66, passing through the outer terminals of the bars 57 and through spaced projecting ears 67 of the converging bars of the said section 55. The inner terminals 68, which project beyond the pivots are arranged to engage the lower edges of the bars 57 for limiting the downward swing of the hinged section for supporting the latter in a substantially horizontal position. The outer ends of theconverging bars of the hinged section 55 are provided with alined perforations, and are connected by a transverse pivot 69, which hinges the head rest 56 to the section 55. The head rest, which may be constructed of any suitable material, is provided at its inner end with spaced ears 70, having alined perforations through which the transverse pivot 69 passes. The outer end of the head rest is supported within the recess 71 in the end of the bath tub, but in bath tubs not pro vided with such a recess the head rest may be swung down out of the way, or supported against the end wall of the tub. The mat 54 is provided with perforations 72, and is removable from the platform.
In using the attachment, the platform is elevated and the bather after stepping from the platform lowers the same to the bottom of the tub by manipulating the main operating lever, which is then looked to secure the platform in such position. Afterwashing, the platform is elevated above the water within the tub, and the spray may then be used without waiting for the water in the tub to drain oil. The use of the attachment will also prevent many of the accidents, which not infrequently result from standing within and getting into and out of slippery bath tubs.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A bath tub attachment including a vertically movable support, springs for maintaining the support in an elevated position within the bath tub and having suflicient power to elevate the bather, and operating mechanism for forcing the support downward to lower the same within the bath tub.
2. A bath tub attachment including a support movable upwardly and downwardly, springs arranged exteriorly of the bath tub and connected with the support for maintaining the same in an elevated position within a bath tub and having suflicient power to elevate a bather, operating mechanism connected with the support for forcing the same downward within the bath tub against the action of the springs, and locking mechanism for holding the support in its lowered position.
3. A bath tub attachment comprising a vertically movable support-ing frame provided at spaced points with exterior vertical slidable portions, springs connected 4 with the vertically slidable portions for maintaining the supporting frame in an elevated position and having suflicient power to elevate a bather, and operating mechanism connected with the supporting frame and having means for depressing the same against the action of the springs and for holding the supporting frame in a depressed position.
4. A bath tub attachment comprising a supporting frame including spaced transverse supports composed of approximately U-shaped platform receiving portions arranged to extend within a bath tub, and exterior vertically slidable portions, guiding means for the latter, a platform carried by the U-shaped portions, springs connected with the exterior vertically slidable portions for raising the platform, and operating mechanism for compressing the springs to lower the platform within the bath tub.
5. A bath tub attachment comprising a supporting frame including spaced transverse supports connected with each other and composed of inner platform receiving portions arranged to extend within a bath tub, and outer vertical rods, guides receiving the rods, yieldable means connected with the supporting frame for moving the same upwardly and for maintaining the supporting frame in an elevated position, and operating mechanism for depressing the supporting frame.
6. A bath tub attachment comprising a supporting frame including spaced transverse supports connected with each other and composed of inner platform receiving portions arranged to extend within a bath tub, and outer vertical rods, guides receiving the rods, coiled springs disposed on the rods and connected with the support-ing frame for raising the same and for maintaining the supporting frame in an elevated position, and operating mechanism for depressing the supporting frame.
7. A bath tub attachment comprising a supporting frame including spaced transverse supports composed of inner approximately U-shaped platform receiving portions, and outer vertical rods connected at their upper ends with the sides of the platform receiving portions, and side rods secured to the lower ends of the vertical rods, guiding means receiving the vertical rods, springs connected with the guides and with the supporting frame for moving the same upwardly and for maintaining the supporting frame in an elevated position, and operating mechanism for depressing the supporting frame against the action of the sprlngs.
8. A bath tub attachment comprising clamps provided with means for engaging the sides of a bath tub, a vertically movable supporting frame provided with platform receivin ortions arran ed to extend into a bath tub, springs connected with the clamps and with the supporting frame for elevating the latter, and operating mechanism for depressing the supporting frame against the action of the springs.
9. A bath tub attachment including clamps provided with means for engaging the sides of a bath tub and provided with guides, a vertically movable supporting frame having portions operating in the guides of the clamps, said supporting frame being also provided with supporting portions arranged to extend within the bath tub, yieldable means for moving the supporting frame upwardly and for maintaining the same in an elevated position, and operating mechanism for depressing the supporting frame against the action of the said yieldable means.
10. A bath tub attachment including bath tub engaging clamps composed of jaws arranged to extend over and engage the upper edges of a bath tub, and adjustable devices cooperating with the jaws to maintain the same in engagement with the bath tub, a supporting frame guided by the clamps and having supporting portions arranged to extend within a bath tub, yieldable means connected with the supporting frame and with the clamps for elevating the former and for maintaining the said supporting frame in an elevated position, and operating mechanism for depressing the supporting frame against the action of the yieldable means.
11. A bath tub attachment including a plurality of bath tub clamps composed of curved jaws arranged to extend over and engage the upper edges of a bath tub, and clamping screws co-acting with the jaws and arranged to engage the bath tub beneath the said upper edges, a vertically movable supporting frame guided by the clamps, and means for raising and lowering the supporting frame.
12. A bath tub attachment including a plurality of bath tub clamps, each composed of a base, a resilient jaw arranged to en gage over the upper edge of a bath tub, and a clamping screw mounted on the base and co-acting with the jaw to maintain the latter in engagement with the bath tub, a vertically movable suporting frame guided by the said clamps, and means for raising and lowering the supporting frame.
13. A bath tub attachment comprising opposite bath tub clamps arranged in pairs and provided with means for engaging the sides of a bath tub, a vertically movable supporting frame guided by the said clamps, an intermediate bath tub clamp having a pivot, and operating mechanism for raising and lowering the supporting frame including an operating lever mounted on the pivot of the intermediate clamp.
14;. A bath tub attachment comprising a vertically movable support, yieldable means for automatically raising the support and for maintaining the same in an elevated position, and operating mechanism for depressing the support against the action of the yieldable means, said operating mechanism including a rock shaft, a link connecting the rock shaft with the support, and an operating lever connected with the rock shaft for partially rotating the same.
15. A bath tub attachment comprising a vertically movable support, yieldable means for automatically raising the support and for maintaining the same in an elevated position, and operating mechanism for depressing the support against the action of the yieldable means, said operating mechanism including a rock shaft having an arm, a link connected with the support and with the arm and provided at one side with a recess arranged to receive the rock shaft when the support is lowered, whereby the link is adapted to form a lock, and means for rotating the rock shaft.
16. A bath tub attachment comprising a vertically movable support, yieldable means for automatically raising the support, and for maintaining the same in an elevated position, and operating mechanism for depressing the support against the action of the yieldable means, said operating mechanism including a rock shaft having a rocker arm, and opposite extending operating arms, a link connecting the rocker arm with the support and provided at one side with a recess and arranged to receive the rock shaft when the support is depressed, an op erating lever, and a link connecting the operating lever with the operating arm of the rock shaft and provided at one side with a recess arranged to receive the rocker arm when the support is elevated.
17 A bath tub attachment comprising a vertically movable support, yieldable means for automatically raising the support and for maintaining the same in an elevated position, and operating mechanism for depressing the support against the action of the yieldable means, said operating mechanism including a transverse rock shaft arranged to extend beneath a bath tub and provided at opposite sides with rocker arms and having an operating arm, links arranged in pairs and connecting the rocker arms with the support, an operating lever, and a pair of links connecting the operating lever with the operating arm of the rock shaft.
18. A bath tub attachment comprising a supporting frame composed of spaced transverse supports and side connecting bars, spaced bath tub clamps, springs connected with the clamps and wit-h the supporting frame for moving the latter upwardly and for maintaining the same in an elevated position, depending hanger rods connecting the clamps and provided with spaced bearings, and operating mechanism for depressing the supporting frame against the action of the springs, said operating mechanism including a transverse rock shaft ournalecl in the bearings of the hanger rods and provided with rocker arms and having an operating arm, links connecting the rocker arms with the side bars of the supporting frame, an operating lever, and a link connecting the operating lever with the operating arm of the rock shaft.
19. A bath tub attachment comprising spaced bath tub clamps arranged in pairs and provided with means for engaging a bath tub at the upper edges thereof, approximately V-shaped hanger rods connected at their ends to the clamps and spacing the same and provided at their angles with bearings, a vertically movable supporting frame guided by the clamps, yieldable means for moving the supporting frame upwardly automatically, and operating mechanism for depressing the supporting frame against the action of the yieldable means, said operating mechanism comprising a rock shaft journaled in the bearings of the hanger rods, links connecting the rock shaft with the supporting frame, and an operating lever connected with the rock shaft for rotating the same.

A bath tub attachment comprising a vertically movable support, yieldable means for automatically raising the support, operating mechanism for depressing the support against the act-ion of the yieldable means, said operating mechanism including an oscillatory member, and locking mechanism arranged in the path of the lever and having a catch for engaging the same.
21. A bath tub attachment comprising a vertically movable support, yieldable means for automatically raising the support, operating mechanism for depressing the support against the action of the yieldable means, said operating mechanism including an oscillatory member, and locking mechanism arranged in the path of the oscillatory member and composed of a movable catch arranged to engage the said member, a movable member arranged to hold the catch in its engaging position, and operating means connected with the movable member for carrying the same to and from the catch.
22. A bath tub attachment comprising a vertically movable support, yieldable means for automatically raising the support, operating mechanism for depressing the support against the action of the yieldable means, said operating mechanism including an oscillatory member, and locking mechanism composed of a spring catch arranged to engage the member, a pivoted link movable to and from the catch and arranged to hold the same in engagement with the oscillatory member, and an operating lever connected with the link for actuating the same.
23. A bath tub attachment comprising a vertically movable support, yieldable means for automatically raising the support, operating mechanism for depressing the support against the action of the yieldable means, said operating mechanism including an oscillatory member, and locking mechanism consisting of a spring catch arranged to engage the member, a pivoted link movable to and from the catch and arranged to hold the same in engagement with the oscillatory member, and an operating lever connected with the link for actuating the same, and provided with an arm arranged to move the catch out of engagement with the oscillatory member.
24. A bath tub attachment comprising a vertically movable support, yieldable means for automatically raising the support, operating mechanism for depressing the support against the action of the yieldable means, said operating mechanism including an oscillatory member, and locking mechanism consisting of a keeper arranged in the path of the oscillatory member, a movable catch cooperating with the keeper to lock the oscillatory member, a pivoted link movable to and from the catch and arranged to hold the same in its engaging position, and a lever connected with the link for actuating the same.
25. A bath tub attachment comprising a vertically movable support, yieldable means for automatically raising the support, operating mechanism for depressing the support against the action of the yieldable means, said operating mechanism including an oscillatory member, and locking mechanism consistingof a bracket, a keeper mounted on the bracket and arranged to receive the oscillatory member, a spring catch having an approximately horizontal engaging portion and provided with an inclined portion, a pivoted link movable to and from the catch and arranged to hold the same in its engaging position, and a lever connected with the link for actuating the same and provided with a portion arranged to engage the inclined portion of the catch for moving the latter out of engagement with the oscillatory member.

A bath tub attachment comprising clamps provided with means for engaging a bath tub at the upper edges thereof, a supporting frame guided by the clamps, yieldable means for automatically raising the supporting frame and for maintaining the same in an elevated position, operating mechanism for depressing the supporting frame against the action of the yieldable means and including an oscillatory member,
a bracket supported by one of the clamps and provided with a keeper arranged to receive the oscillatory member, a movable catch cooperating with the keeper to lock the said member, a pivoted link movable to and from the catch, and a lever mounted on the bracket and connected with the link for actuating the same.
27. A bath tub attachment comprising a vertically movable support, yieldable means for automatically raising the support and for maintaining the same in an elevated position, operating mechanism including a rock shaft, a link connected with the rock shaft and with the support, an oscillatory member also connected with the rock shaft for rotating the same, a movable cat-ch arranged to engage the oscillatory member, a pivoted lever, connections between the lever and the rock shaft, a link pivotally mounted on the lever and movable to and from the catch for holding the same in engagement with the oscillatory member, and an operating lever connected with the link for actu ating the same and the said lever.

A bath tub attachment comprising a vertically movable support, yieldable means for automatically raising the support and for maintaining the same in an elevated position, operating mechanism including a rock shaft, a link connected with the rock shaft and with the support, an oscillatory member also connected with the rock shaft for rotating the same, a movable catch arranged to engage the oscillatory member, a pivoted lever, connections between the lever and the rock shaft provided with a yieldable device, a link pivotally mounted on the lever and movable to'and from the catch for holding the same in engagement with the oscillatory member, and an operating lever con neeted with the link for actuating the same and the said lever.

A bath tub attachment comprising a vertically movable support, yieldable means for automatically raising the support and for maintaining the same in an elevated position, operating mechanism including a rock shaft, a link connected with the rock shaft and with the support, an oscillatory member also connected with the rock shaft for rotating the same, a bracket, a movable catch mounted on the bracket and arranged to engage the oscillatory member, a lever pivoted at an intermediate point to the bracket, connections between one arm of the lever and the rock shaft, a link pivotally iounted on the other arm of the lever and movable to and from the catch, and an op erating lever mounted on the bracket and connected with the link for actuating the same.

A bath tub attachment comprising a vertically movable support, yieldable means for automatically raising the support and for maintaining the same in an elevated position, operating mechanism including a rock shaft, a link connected with the rock shaft and with the support, an oscillatory member also connected with the rock shaft for rotating the same, a bracket, a movable catch mounted on the bracket and arranged to engage the oscillatory member, a lever pivoted at an intermediate point tothe bracket, connections between one arm of the lever and the rock shaft, a link pivotally mounted on the other arm of the lever and movable to and from the catch, an operating lever mounted on the bracket and connected with the link for actuating the same, a toothed segment supported by the said operating lever, and means carried by the latter for engaging the toothed segment.

A bath tub attachment comprising a vertically movable support, yieldable means for automatically raising the support and for maintaining the same in an elevated position, operating mechanism for depressing the support against the action of the yield able means, said operating mechanism including an oscillatory member, a bracket having a slot, a catch movable through the slot and arranged to engage the oscillatory member, a link consisting of a loop having spaced sides located atopposite sides of the bracket, said link being movable to and from the catch. and adapted to hold the latter in. engagement with the lever, and means for actuating the link.
32. A bath tub attachment including spaced supports having curved supporting portions, and a platform curved transversely and composed of spaced bars and arranged on the supports, and means for connecting the bars.
83. A bath tub attachment including spaced supports, and an extensible platform mounted on the supports and composed of spaced bars having overlapped portions slidably connected together.
34. A bath tub attachment provided with a platform consisting of a body portion composed of spaced bars, and a hinged section also consisting of spaced bars pivotally connected with the bars of the body portion and provided with projecting inner ends arranged to engage beneath the bars of the body portion to limit the swing of the hinged section in one direction.
A bath tub attachment provided with a platform consisting of a body portion composed of spaced bars, and a hinged section consisting of spaced outwardly converging bars pivot-ed at their inner ends to the bars of the body portion.
36. A bath tub attachment having a platform including a body portion composed of spaced bars, a hinged section also consisting of spaced bars pivoted to the bars of the body portion, and a head rest hinged to the outer end of the said section and adapted to be supported against one end of a bath tub and also foldable beneath the hinged section.
37. A bath tub attachment having a platform including a body portion composed of spaced longitudinal bars, curved transverse rods connecting the said bars, and spacing sleeves mounted on the rods and interposed between the bars.
38. A bath tub attachment having a platform including a body portion composed of spaced longitudinal bars, curved transverse rods connecting the said bars, and spacing sleeves mounted on the rods and interposed between the bars, and a hinged section curved transversely and composed of outwardly converging bars connected together at their outer ends and pivoted at their inner ends to the bars of the body portion.
39. A bath tub attachment comprising a vertically movable support, yieldable means for automatically raising the supportand for maintaining the same in an elevated position, operating mechanism for depressing the support against the action of the yieldable means, said operating mechanism including a rock shaft connected with the support, and an oscillatory member connected with the rock shaft for actuating the same, locking mechanism arranged in the path of the oscillatory member for holding the latter, and connections between the look ing mechanism and the rock shaft, whereby the locking mechanism is adapted to control the rotary movement of the rock shaft for governing the upward movement of the support and for holding the latter at different elevations.
