To all whom 'it may concern:

Be it known that I, HARRY T. DENLINGER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Lancaster, in the county of Lancaster and State of Pennsylvania, have invented new and useful Improvements in Figure Toys, of which the following is a specification.

The invention relates to toys, and more particularly to the class of mechanical toys.

The primary object of the invention is the provision of a toy in which the same may be caused to jump from place to place, and has the appearance of an animal, thereby affording amusement to children.

Another object of the invention is the provision of a movable figure toy in the form of an animal which is adapted to leap through the air, so as to simulate the characteristics of an animate animal for amusing children.

A further object of the invention is the provision of a toy of this character which is simple in construction, efficient in operation, and inexpensive in manufacture.

lVith these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and pointed out in the claims hereunto appended.

In the drawings: Figure 1 is a side elevation of a toy constructed in accordance with the invention. Fig. 2 is a top plan view thereof. Fig. 3 is a vertical longitudinal sectional view of the same. plan View with the body of the animal removed.

Similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views of the drawings.

Referring to the drawings by numerals, the toy comprises a base frame, including spaced parallel side bars 5 and end bars 6, the same being united together in any suitable manner to form a rigid open frame structure.

Suitably mounted upon the frame is a hollow body 7, preferably constructed from rubber, and is in the form of a figure, which in the present instance represents a rabbit, the body 7 being rigidly supported upon the said frame and opened at its bottom to accommodate the operating mechanism, presently described.

mediate its ends, is arocking bar 8, the same being formed with trunnion ends 9 journaled in the side bars 5 of the said frame, and supported by the rocking bar 8 is a jumping arm 10, the same being formed at one end with an upturned trip lever 11, the arm 10 being suitably fixed medially to the said rocking bar 8, whereby on the freeing of the trip lever 11 thereof, the said bar will be permitted to move for the jumping of the frame in the air, in a manner presently described.

Disposed rearwardly of the rocking bar 8 and arranged transversely of the frame is a further rocking bar 12, the latter being provided with trunnion ends 13 journaled in the side bars 5 of the frame. This rocking bar 12 has fixed medially thereto a hooklike releasing catch 14, the same being normally engaged with the trip lever 11 to hold the jumping arm 10 locked against movement, the said releasing catch 14.- being formed with a downwardly curved rear extension 15, which has its free end passed through an opening 16 is formed in the rear end of the body 7, the extension 15 of the releasing catch being disposed within the tail portion 17 of the figure 7 so that upon depressing said tail portion 17, the releasing catch 14: will be caused to disengage from the trip lever 16, thus freeing the jumping arm 10 for moving or jumping the figure toy in the air, which is adapted to swing through the open bottom of the body 7 Passed under the rocking bar 8 and looped over the trip lever 11 is one end of an elastic band or loop 18, the other end of which is looped over the releasing catch 14, and this elastic band or loop 18 is tensioned on engaging the trip lever 11 with the releasing catch 14, so that when the latter is released, the jumping arm 10 will be moved outwardly away from the frame, and on its contact with the floor or table upon which the toy is positioned will cause the latter to bound or jump in the air, the releasing catch 14: being disengaged from the trip lever 11 when the extension 15 is depressed by forcing downwardly upon the tail portion 17 of the figure toy.

l/Vhat is claimed is:

1. A toy comprising a body, having an open bottom, apropelling arm pivoted within the body, a spring for moving the propelling arm and a tail carrying member pivoted Within the body and provided With means for holding the propelling arm against the action of the spring.

2. A toy comprising a body having an open bottom, an arm pivoted Within the body adapted to swing through the open bottom to propel said body, a spring for moving said arm through said open bottom, and a catch for holding said arm against the action of the spring and provided on one end With a tail.

3. A toy comprising a body having an open bottom, propelling means movable through said open bottom and pivoted upon the said body and adapted to move the same, a spring connected With said propelling means and provided With a lever and a tail piece cooperating with said lever to ho1d said propelling means against the action of the spring.
