Be it known that of the King of Belgium, residing at La Pralle-Herstal, near Liege, Belgium, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Automatic Pistols; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The U. S. Patent No. 970645 of 20th September 1910 describes an automatic pistol with fixed barrel wherein the casing which surrounds the barrel at the front and which contains the recoil spring, is maintained in place upon the body solely by the pressure which this spring exerts on the rear part of the casing; consequently the latter can be slid along the barrel by compressing the recoil spring, just as the breech-bolt can be moved rearward.
The present invention has for its object to provide a modiiication of this pistol in which the casing and breech-bolt can be lifted or separated from the body without disassembling the pistol or removing the recoil spring. The accompanying drawing represents this arrangement.
Figure 1 is a longitudinal ger mechanism being omitted. Fig. 2 is a horizontal section on A-B (Fig. l). Fig. 3 is an external view, showing the casing separated from the barrel.
The pistol consists essentially of the body l which carries the barrel 2 surrounded by the sleeve 3 of the casing l the recoil spring 5 takes a bearing at the rear end against the internal shoulder 6 of the casing l and, at the front against the ring-nut 7 carried by a rod 8 whose rear end is connected to the breech-bolt 9. The bolt 9 is guided in the body; the casing et has a flat bottom face l which rests on the body 1 and insures the transverse rigidity. The rear end of the rod 8 terminates in a head l1 through which passes a pin 12 fixed to the breech-boltand about which the rod 8 and casing et can pivot in a vertical plane. Consequently, after having compressed the recoil spring and brought the casing Ll into the position shown in Fig. 1 by dotted lines, the said casing can be slightly turned upward about the axis l2 (Fig. 3) and removed from the body l, together with the breech-bolt 9, without removing the recoil spring.
In order to retain the casing in the posisection, the trig- I, HENRI Rosina, subject I tion shown in Fig. 3, with respect to the breech-bolt 9, and consequently to facilitate the removal and replacement of the latter, t the casing is provided at its rear end with a small projection 13 which normally engages in the breech-bolt (Fig. l) but which engages above the latter (Fig. 3) after the casing has been raised. The fore end ofthe casingel and sleeve 3 is preferably provided with channels o-r grooves at the sides which facilitate the gripping or holding of the same. An abutment may be provided within the interi o-r of the casing 4L for cooperating with the head 7, so as to limit the rearward travel of the breech-bolt 9.
Having 'fully described my invention, what I desire to claim and secure by Letters Patent is l. An automatic pistol comprising a body, a fixed barrel, a reciprocating breech-bolt, a recoil spring, a casing containing the said spring and retained in place thereby and having a fore part capable of sliding on the body or barrel, and means for disengaging the said forward part from the body or barrel and for permitting of removing it, with the breech-bolt and the recoil spring, from the rear of the body.
2. An automatic pistol comprising a body, a fixed barrel, a reciprocating breech-bolt, a recoil spring, a casing having a fore part in the form of a sleeve which surrounds the barrel and an upper part inclosing the recoil spring which tends to force the breech-bolt forward and to maintain the sleeve of the casing against the body, and means for disengaging the sleeve of the casing from the barrel and for then removing the casing, with the breech-bolt and the recoil spring, from the open rear part of the body.

An automatic pistol comprising a body, a liXed barrel, a reciprocating breech-bolt, a recoil spring, a casing having a fore part in the form of a sleeve which surrounds the barrel, and of which the upper part incloses the recoil spring, and a rod jointed to the breech-bolt and acted upon by the spring so that the said breech-bolt tends to be moved forward and the sleeve of the casing maintained against the body, in such a manner that the said sleeve can be disengaged from the barrel by sliding it forward, and then the breech-bolt, the spring, and the casing removed from the completely open rear part of the body after having turned the casing upward.
