Description

WQ L. RUBBCK.
,FENCE PosTL lAPPLIGAIJLON FILED MAB.. 9, 1911,
Patented M1223, 192..
do hereby declare the clear, and exact- -a 'metallic fence post which WALTER L. BUBECK, or sr. PAUL, NEBRASKA.
FENCE-POST.
To all whom it may concern Be it known'thatl I, WALTER L. RUBECK, a citizen. of the 4'United States,` residing at St. Paul, in the county of Howard, State of Nebraska, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fence-Posts; and following to be' a full, description of the invention,
such as will enable others skilledin the art-A v arrangement of the lower end portions of the post thereby permitting the anchoring means vto be used at discretion.
A still further object is to provide a metallic fence post of the abovev described character, having a U-shaped cross section, the parallel edges of which are provided with openings arranged in a novel manner so asto positively hold the fence wires in position without preventing their ready application.
The invention consists of certain other combinations and arrangements of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and clearly specified in the appended claim.
In the drawingsz-Fi-gure 1 is an inside view of a portion of a fence, showing my improved fence post and the wires in position. Fig. 2 is a plan view of a blank on a small scale from which the post'isconstructed. Fig. 3 is a detail perspective view of a post in its folded condition ready for use.
Referring t-o the drawings in detail, there is shown a blank section of material which is adapted to be folded along the dotted lines 10 and 11 to provide a central section 12 forming they front of the post and the sides 13 and 14 which are disposed at right angles to the front portion 12. The lower portions of the blank in alinement withthe Specification of Letters Patent.
Application led March 9,
ratentednpr. 23, 1912.
1911. Serial No. 613,367.
folded lines 10 andv11 are severed as shown to be formed as an anchor through the medium of the tongues 17, 18 and19, the former of which is disposed centrally and forms' a part of the'front portion 12 and the latter of which form extensions of the side portions 13 and 14 and are adapted to be turned inwardly at right angles upon the dot-ted lines 20 as is more particularly shown in Fig. 3 of the drawings. l
It is preferable that the side tongues 18 and 19 be rst bent inwardly and the portions 17 be disposed therebe-neath, as it has anchoring member and will resist an unusual pressure in an attempt to dislodge the post which when buried in the ground is tightly surrounded by the earth which is pressed to cover the tongues 17, 18 and 19 between the side portions to form 'the anchoring means.
ItV will be seen y that the post is substantial y U-shaped in cross section and in order forming the fence and the retention thereof, the side portions 13 and 1li are formed with spaced'vertical slots 2'2 disposed in lo'ngitue dinal alinement in the opposite side portions and also spaced fromthc edges of the blank forming the sides of the post. The slots 22 in the side portion 13 are formed with entering openings 23 which communicatel with the edge of the blank and are disposed above the vertical center of the slots 22 in each instance, the slots in the side portion 11 having i the openings 21 which .are disposed below i the vertical center of each of the slots 22 and l out of alinement with the openings 28. It will be seen that bythis construction, the
wires may be readily applied to the inner been "found that this forms a very desirable,
A fence post comprising a single section' at 15 and 16 adapting the bottom of the post to permit the application of the wires 21 line with the folding points to form tongues, In testimony whereof, I ax my signathe'sidetongues being bent inwardly in opture, in presence of t-Wo Witnesses. posite directions to overlap each other and v l the central tongue being bent at right an- WALTER L' RUBECK 5 gies thereto and in Contact therewith to Witnesses:
form an anchor Within the area of the lower XVILLIAM H. SHARP, portion of the post. C. HARRY BROCK.
