IMPROVEMENT IN LAMP-BURNERS.

The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, PHILANDER BAKER, of Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a. new Improvementin Lamp-Burners; and I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings and the letters of reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exact description of thesame,'andwhich said drawings constitute part of this specification, and represent, in- I Figure 1, a side view, and in Figure 2, a side view of the same turned one-fourth around from fig. l.

This invention relates to an improvement in that class of burners in which the' chimney is secured to the base of the deflector by four vertical springs, the

object being the construction of the burner so that the deflector and chimney may, together or separately, be removed from the burner, and yet so that the chimney may be easily removed from the deflector, and the invention consists in uniting two springs upon one side and two springs upon the other side, each two by a connection which, while it strengthens the vertical spring, forms a latch by which to secure the deflector to the base. i

and constructed so as to be applied to the lamp, and

fitted with a wick-tube, D, in the usual manner.

From the said deflector extend two pairs of springs, E and F, each pair connected by branches H H of an auxiliary spring, the said branches united at I, and bent so as to latch under the base of the burner, as denoted in fig. 2, and slotted so as to set over the adjusting-spindle L. The chimney sets within the vertical springs E and F onto the deflector, in the usual manner.

By raising one of the springs, as denotedin broken lines, fig. 2, the deflector and chimney may, together, be removed from the base, but otherwise may be securely held in' position. The pressure of the springs uponthe chimney is suflicieut to hold the' chimney in position, and yet so that the chimney may be brought from the embrace of the springs without removing the deflector. 7

I claim as my invention In combination with the deflector A, the spring E or F, attached thereto, and branch H of an auxiliary spring, the said auxiliary spring serving to connect the deflector and chimney to the base, substantially in the manner described.
