VANITY-BOX.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 2, 1912.
Application filed January 19, 1911. Serial No. 603,521.
To all 'whom "it may concern:
Be it known that I, PAUL Nocxnn, a citi- `zen of the Republic of France, residing in Paris, in said Republic of France, have -invented certain new and useful Improve'- ments in Vanity-Boxes, whereof the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a vanity box to be carried in a ladys pocketbook for containingI face powder and means for applying it.
The object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which can be produced so cheaply as to be freely given away with samples of 'face powder for advertising the latter.
To this end the invention consists in a vanity box constructed of pasteboard as hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a top planview of this improved vanity box. Fig. 2 represents a vertical diametrical section on line 2-2 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 represents a vertical diametrical section of the cover-puff therefor removed from the box. Fig. 4 represents a diametrical vert-ical section of the body of the'box.
lSimilar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the different figures.
This vanity box comprises a flat box and a slidingcov r-pufl'. The flat box is constructed of a disk c constituting its bottom and an upwardly projecting annular flange a. also composed of paste/board and disposed at the periphery of said' disk. The box is provided with an inner fiange a2 also com-,
posed of pasteboard cemented to the outer flange a and about half the height thereof. This inner flange serves to reinforce the outer flange constituting the body of the box and the top 'thereof acts as a rest or stop a3 for the cover-puff.
The sliding cover-puff consists of a pasteboard disk Zi provid-ed on its upper side with a central pull knob or handle d, at its periphery with an upward flange b2 and on its' under side with 'a powder pad f). The
flange b2 is of a height corresponding with the distance from the top of the interior body flange a2 to the top of the exterior body flange a', the upper edges of said flanges being flush. The flange of the cover-- puff reinforces the body flange and incloses the knob or handle. The flange b2 of the cover-puff forms a large contact surface between its outer periphery and the inner periphery of the flange a. of the box body and operates to hold by a piston-like action the cover-puff within the box when said coverpuff is used as a cover and permits it to slide out with some resistance when it is to be used as a puff. The flat powder puff' l) secured to the under side of the disk b is adapted to engage the powder fp in the bottom of the box.
I claim as my invention :H
1. A pocket. I'iastcboard vanity box consisting of a flat box constructed of a pasteboard disk provided with an upward circumferential flange constituting the body of the box and with an internal reinforcing flange cemented thereto and serving as a cover stop, and a sliding7 cover-puff' constructed of a flat pasteboard disk provided on its under side with a flat powder pad cemented thereto and on its -upper side with a central knob and at its periphery with an upward flange surrouniling said knob and operative piston-like within said box to hold the co'vcr closed and serving to reinforce the upper half of the body ofthe box.
2. A cover-puff for a vanity box consisting of a pasteboard disk, a powder pad cemented to the under side thereof, a knob secured to the upper side of said disk and an upward flange at the periphery of said disk inclosing said knob.
In testimony, that I claim the foregoing as my invention, I have signed my name in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
'PAUL NOCARD.
