To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, JAMES H. FREY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Vin cennes, in the county of Knox and State of Indiana, have invented a new and useful Swing, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to improvements in swings generally, more especially hangers therefor. I

The invention has for its object, to provide for suitably supportin or pivoting in position, the lateral suspen ing members of the swing.

A further object is to effect that purpose in such manner as to avoid the usual creaking or screeching noise heretofore experienced in connection with such suspending means.

A still further object is to provide for lubricating the parts of the hanger so that the lubricant or oil will not casually overflow or leave the bearing points or lubricator and soil the clothes of the occupant of the swing, nor be allowed to run down along the swing lateral or suspending members, in contact with the hands.

A still further object is to provide for carrying out the aforesaid ends in a simple, inexpensive and effective manner.

The invention consists of certain instrumentalities and features substantially as hereinafter fully disclosed and defined by the claims.

In the accompanying drawing illustrating the preferred embodiment of my invention, wherein it will be understood that various changes and modifications as relates to the detailed construction and arrangement of the parts may be made without departing from the spirit of my invention,Figures 1 and 2 are elevational views of the invention viewed from different angles. Figs. 3 and 4 are detailed views thereof in plan, and partly in elevation and section, respectively.

In carrying out my invention, I provide a cup-like or socket-member 1 which is duplicated for each lateral or side suspending member of the swing, said member being preferably screw-threaded as at 2 or ,otherwise adapted for its insertion and retention in overhead position, as will be readily ap-v preciated. Said socket or cup member 1 has its lower portion formed with a lateral upwardly facing or presented portion or enlargement as 3, said enlargement or portion being formed with a cavity, or in cup-like outline, as indicated particularly by Fig. 4, which will be again referred to presently.

A hook-ended member 4, pointing or curved downwardly, has its point 5, which is. somewhat tapered, received within the cavit-y or cup 6 of the lateral enlargement 3, the bottom surface of which cavity is similarly narrowed or tapered to suitably conform to the point-contour of the hook member 4.

This allows of suitably poising or pivoting" tively sensitive and practically noiseless hearing or "engagement at that point, as is apparent.

The'hook-ended member 4 has a downwardly extended vertical body portion 4 the lower end of which terminates in a lateral horizontal stud 4 which is received by, or engages a link of one of the flexible or lateral swing-suspending members 7 the upper also hook-ended link 8 of said suspending member being received by, or engaging an aperture 9 in the vertical body portion of the hook-ended member 4 as clearly disclosed by Figs. 1, 2 and '4 to efiect a connection therebetween. This arrangement is of course, duplicated for the opposite swingsuspending member; the lateral stud-connection 4 serving for the retention of the hanger hook-ended member 4 suitably with respect to the swing-suspending member, as will be readily appreciated.

It will be noted that as stated at the outset, the cup-shaped member 1 is adapted to be supplied with an oil or other suitable lubricant, for requisitely lubricating the pivoting or engaging point of contact, therebetween and the point of the member 4 to further reduce friction, also to aid in reducing wear and noise at that point. It is also observed that the cup-shaped hanger member will suitably retain the oil or lubricant, as against its casually over-flowing or leaving said cup-shaped hanger-member and running down upon the swing-suspending members, where it would be liable to reach and soil the clothing of the occupant of the swing, also to come in contact with the hands, and make conditions, otherwise generally unsanitary.

From the foregoing disclosure taken in connection with the accompanying illustration or drawing, it is believed that the advantages and benefits of my invention will be fully appreciated, it, however, being emphasized that it is characterized for extreme simplicity embracing but very few parts and accordingly inexpensive, while it forms a sensitive and noiseless bearing for the purpose recited.

What is claimed is 1. In a hanger for a swing, a hangermember having its lower end terminating in a lateral cup-forming extension whose inner surface is flared upwardly and a hookended member having a downwardly presented point, received by said cup-forming extension, the cavity or chamber of the latter being adapted to allow of the oscillation of said point of said hook-ended member as the latter partakes of the swinging motion.

2. A device of the character described including a hook-ended member having at its lower end a lateral stud and an aperture near its hooked portion, means for support- 1 ing said hook-ended member in position, and

a lateral suspending member comprising a hook-ended link adapted to engage said aperture, said lateral stud engaging said suspending member.

3. A device of the character described, including a hanger-member having a cavity, a hook-ended member with its point engaging said cavity, said hook-ended member having an aperture near its upper hooked portion and a lateral stud at its lower end, and a lateral suspending member comprising an upper-end hooked link engaging said aperture, said lateral stud engaging said suspending member.
