ISAAC LEFKOWITZ, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
WAIST.
Application filed July 7, 1911.' Serial no. 637,319.
To all whom it may concern:
' Be it known that I, IsAAo LEFKOWITZ, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the borough of Manhattan, county, city, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Waists, set forth in the following specifi cation. p
\This invention relates to a combination garment and its embodiment is shownas a ladys waist combining in addition to the waist proper, a girdle and a sash.
An object of the invention is to facilitate and simplify the operation of dressingwithi of the invention to increase the stylishnessout a consequent sacrifice in general appearance and style. In fact it is rather an object and appearance of neatness in the wearer.
A still further object of the invention is to provide a ladys waist having a solid back and parted lapping sections at the front so arranged that they are self-adapt able to various bust measures without any alterations in the waist and so that the entire waist may be donned and secured to the wearer without the use of pins, hooks or buttons.
An illustrative embodiment of the inven tion is described in detail in the following specification and shown in the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this application, in which like characters designate corresponding parts and in which,-
held in position with the sash strips crossing and pendant; Fig. 2 is a rear elevation of the waist as shown in Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is a front elevation of the waist as it would appear applied to the wearer; Fig. 4 is a rear elevation of the structure of Fig. 3; and Fig. 5 is a pattern illustrating a gore combining a waist section, a girdle section and a sash section.
The waist illustrated is provided with a,
solid back portion 1 of any suitable pattern, and on which are provided suitable arm holes and the usual neck opening. In the embodiment illustrated the solid portion of the waist is the back 1 which has the short waist-skirt 3 to be secured to the wearer as by the skirt band of the skirt 4. As a further aid in holding in place this solid portion 1 it may be secured by the belt tape 5, shown suitably stitched to the lower margin of the solid portion 1 of the waist.
The body portion of the waist opposite Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 26,1912.
1 the solid. portion is completed by two lapping sections 6 and 7 which also combine other parts as will presently appear. These sections may, of course, be patterned and shaped. so as to conform to the body contour and size of, the wearer. The portion 7 ,shows a. satisfactory pattern for the left front body section.
7 indicates the shoulder seam; 7 the arm seam; 7* the side seam; and 7 the lap edge which is overlapped by thecorresponding ornamented edge 6 of the right hand section- 6 and so as to form a closure for the garment.
The portion 7 of the pattern shown in Fig. 5'has a terminal edge 7 cut to conform to the waist line as indicated particularly in Fig. 3. The waist section 7 continues into the girdle sect-ion 7 which in turn is continued into the sash 7 The pattern for the right side 6 is precisely similar to the pattern for the left side 7. In fact both sections are cut to the same pattern, the goods being folded.
As soon as the wearer has donned the garment to the extent of thrusting the arms through the sleeves 2, the tape 5. should be secured about the waist of the wearer by fastening the ends of the same together in any. suitable manner as by a knot. The
skirt 4 is then secured in the usual manner with itsband overlying the waist-skirt 3.
I The pendant sash portions 6 and '7 are Figure l is a front elevation of the waistthen crossed as shown in Fig. 1 and are drawn outwardly about the waist of the wearer so that the edges 6 and 7" are a neat terminal edge for the waist overlying the skirt l and so that the girdle portions 6 and 7 crush and drape themselves abut the waist of the wearer in the form of a neat crush-girdle, theends of which are knotted in any suitable manner and position as at the side or back into a knot 8. The ends are allowed to depend in any desired manner to simulate a sash or panel.
The neck opening is shown fitted with a collar comprising two separate similar portions 9 and 10 which respectively terminate,
over the solid part 1 of the waist, in two sary to draw up the girdle to the desired tightness while the front sections 6 and 7 drape themselves over the bust contour of the wearer and at the same time the lapping sections S and 10 of the collar shift over one another to insure the proper set for the collar.
The waist may be made up in any desired fabric preferably of light weight however.
Although a blouse waist of a peculiar and ornamental design embodied particularly in the contour of the lapping edges of the front sections; the cut of the girdle sections; and the sash sections is shown in the drawings illustrating the embodiment of this invention, the said ornamental design forms no part of the present mechanical invention, but is intended to be covered by my application Serial No. 637,361, filed on even date herewith.
