To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, CHARLES SIMS WIL- LIAMS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Carthage, in the county of Jasper and State of Missouri, have invented new and useful Improvements in Shoe Brushing and Scraping Devices, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improved shoe cleaner, and the object of the invention is to provide a simple, cheaply constructed and convenient device which may be readily attached to floors, porches, steps or in any other places and embodies means whereby, with a single movement of the foot, the dirt may be scraped from the sole of the shoe and brushed from the sides thereof.
Further objects of the invention will appear as the following specific description is read in connection with the accompanying drawing, which forms a part of this application, and in which Figure 1 is a top plan view of the device. Fig. 2 is a side elevation thereof. Fig. 3 is an endelevation.
Referring more particularly to the drawing, 1 represents a base, here shown to be rectangular in form, but which may be of any size, shape or material preferred in practice. Mounted upon the base, approximately in its center, is a scraper blade 2 which presents a scraping edge 3 for a purpose to be hereinafter described. Suitable cleaning brushes 4, having convex brushing faces opposed to each other, are secured upon the terminal ends of the brush supporting device 10 which comprises a pair of converging arms 5 supported upon the base in parallelism therewith by means of a yoke member 6 whose. uprights 7 are formed integrally with the arms and which is secured to the base by means of the staples 8. The brush supporting ends of the arms are supported in parallelismwith the base by means of a supporting yoke 9 which is connected to the base, as at 11, and to the arms 5 intermediate their length by means of the eyes 12 through which the legs pass. This yoke member is adapted to permit relative separation of the legs 5 when the foot is drawn over the scraper and between the brushes.
WVhat is claimed is p A shoe cleaning device comprising a flat base, brush supporting spring arms mounted thereon parallel with the top of the base and spaced therefrom at one end by a yoke integral with said arms and comprising a cross-bar connected to the base and uprights uniting the ends of the cross bar with the arms, oppositely arranged brushes carried by the free ends of said arms, a supporting yoke for said arms attached to the base intermediate their ends, said arms converging toward their free ends, and a scraper secured to the base between said supporting yoke and the brushes and positioned below the plane of said arms.
