To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, AARON M. lVnnnR, a citizen of the United States, and resident of the borough of Brooklyn, in the city and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Collar Foundations, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to provide a collar foundation composed of transparent, flexible, perforated material such, for instance, as transparent celluloid, cut into the shape required to suit the prevailing style of womens collars for use in connection with dress or shirt waists, the foundation being'bound around its edges, the binding at the overlapping ends of the foundation being extended sufficiently far to receive pins therethrough without requiring the pins to be inserted through the collar foundation itself; said binding also projecting beyond all of the edges of the body portion of the foundation to permit the ready basting or stitching of the collar thereto without requiring the threads to pass through the body portion of the foundation.
By reason of the foundation being made the shape of the collar, the collar will be stiffened or supported throughout instead of at certain points where strips of stiff material are utilized for stiffening the collar. Furthermore, by forming the foundation of transparent material, the fact that a foundation is being used will not be disclosed to the observer when the foundation is in position applied to a lace or other open-work collar.
By extending the binding beyond the ends of the foundation, the necessity of forcing the fastening pins through the foundation material is obviated, thus permitting a more ready use of the fastening pins in connection therewith.
The foundation is rendered cooler and less liable to heat, by perforating the same.
A practical embodiment of my invention is represented in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 represents the foundation before it is attached to the collar, the portion of the foundation intermediate its ends being broken away and indicated only in dotted lines, Fig. 2 is a detail inside view of the foundation and collar at one end thereof, Fig. 3 is an outside view of the same, and Fig. 4: is a transverse section through the foundation.
The body portion of the foundation is denoted by 1 and it is provided with suitable perforations 2. This foundation may be cut to suit the prevailing style of collar to which it is to be applied. The edges of the foundation are bound with suitable fabric, as shown at 3, the said binding at the ends of the foundation being extended a distance beyond the end edges, as shown at 1, to receive the collar fastening pins, not shown herein, and beyond the other edges of the body portion of the foundation to permit the collar to be basted or stitched thereto, without causing the threads to pass through the body portion of the foundation itself.
The body portion of the foundation is made of some suitable transparent material, such, for instance, as transparent celluloid.
The collar is denoted by 5, which collar is basted or otherwise fastened onto the foundation.
\Vhat I claim is 1. A collar foundation comprising a body portion having its edges bound, the binding at the ends of the body portion being ex tended beyond the end edges thereof sufficiently to permit the insertion of collar fastening pins therethrough.
2. A collar foundation comprising a body portion having its edges bound, the binding projecting beyond all the edges of the foundation sutliciently to permit the basting or stitching of a collar thereto without causing the threads to pass through the body portion of the foundation.
