COLLAR AND HOOD.
comms.'
Beit known that I ISRAEL N. LEVY, a citizen of the United tates, 'residingvat New York city, in the county of Newl ork and State of-New York, have invented certaln vnew and useful Improvements in Collars and'I-Ioods; andl I do hereby declare .the following to be a full, clear, and exact descn tion of the invention, such as will enab e and has more especia ordin others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same. My invention relates to wearing alparel and more particularl to collars and oods li for its object to rothe appearance ol `an collar but which is convertible into a hood y turning the same inside out.
Another object of my invention is to provide a collar having lvide a collar for a garment bearing resemmsl blance 'to a `sailor or othercollar and which collar may be converted into a hood by turnin the same inside out.
ther objects will be apparent fromthe following eciication, apxended claim and drawings ereof, in wh1 y y Figure 1 is a vrspective view of the garment wshowing e collar .converted into a hood. Y Fig. 2 is asimilar viewI showing the same as a, sailor collar. Fig. 8 is an elevation of m device, parts broken away for the sake of c earness. Fig. 4 is a sectional view as on the line 4-4 of Figl.
said fabric is gathered so as stgimpermit the Referring more specifically to the drawin there 1s shown a garment 10 havi a sailor collar attached thereto and said sa or collar, is made u of the plies of fabric 11 and 12 which p es of fabric. are stitched about the margm vas shown in the drawin as at 13. The lat'e'r of fabric 11 is secure ,40'
to the collar ban of the garment while the fabric'12 is cut awa as at 14 as shown in Fig.8 of the'drawmgs, and the marginal edge about sald cut away portions is proed at intervals with` elastic bands 15 and elastic' bands 15 to provide cient play as tofperimt the edge 14 to be passed over of the drawin k swaeeonammn nene Patented Mar. 12,1912. Application leduly 87, 1911. Serial No. 840,844.
1 lthe head of the wearer. The free edges of the plies of fabric 11 and 12 have extensions 16 which when stitched together about their marginal ed es form a intended to folded between the pliesllof pocket 17 which yisfabric 11 and 12 when the collar is worn ias shown in Fig. 2 of the drawings, and to hold' the collar in this sitio`n I provide the stud 18 and clasp 19 w ichgare secured to the exs.
From the fore oing it will be obvious 'that I have provide a collar .which in rainy weather is -convertible into a hood by turning the same inside out through the opening formed by the cutaway ortlon 14,. so that the garment shows a colar conforming to i theordina fashion when resting on the shoulders w 'ch collar serves as a hood when so desired.
`It can be readily seen that this device is aplplicable to various shapes and designs of co ars without departin from the spn'it of my invention and thou I have shown but one design of a collar 1n the drawings I do not wish to be limited to the-particular form here shown as with slight Aalterations-the collar can be made of 'any convenient design. What I claim is: As a newarticle of manufacture a gar ment forming a combined sailor collar and hood, said garment comprising a doubledqf;
quadrangular collar portion provided with?" an extensible portion foldedL inwardly along the lower edgev thereof, andmeans for re-` taining the extensible portion in folded;p0
