To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK A. Jrxcrk. a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of Chicago, county of Cook, and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Non-ltd 'fillable Bottles, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in non-refillable bottles and has for its object the provision of a bottle of this character which shall be simple of construction and efficient in operation.
The invention consists in the combinations and arrangements of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention will be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification, and in which,

The preferred form of construction as illustrated in the accompanying drawing comprises a bottle 1 having a neck 2 which is provided with a plurality of circumferential grooves 3 adjacent the upper end thereof. A metallic tubular cap 1 of somewhat taered form is applied to the bottle neck 2 as illustrated in Fig. 1, the lower edges of said cap being formed into the grooves 3 after the same is positioned as shown. Depending fro-m the edges of the cap 4- and opposite thereon is a pair of hooks 5, through which is passed a wire 6 which terminates in a seal 7. In this manner the cap 4 is sealed so that any attempt at removing the same would be detected. Furthermore the crimping or conforming the lower edges of the cap 1 with the grooves 3 renders the joint between the cap and the neck 2 very tight. In order to admit air to the interior of the cap t a smaller vent hole 6 is provided as shown in Fig. 1. A cork 8 is provided for the neck 2 and the same is reinforced by 'a sheet metal disk 9 the edges of which project'over the top extremity ofthe bottle and form astop for the cork 8 when the same is being inserted. In order to extract the cork 8 a central perforation 10 is provided in the Specification of Letters Patent.

disk 9 which forms a swivclcd bearing for a hinge 11. formed at the lower end of a screw stem 12, this construction being clearly illustratrai in Fig. 4. The screw stem 12 provided with a knurled head 13 whereby said stem is rotatably turned in either direction. The swivcled connection of the screw stem 12 and the cork 8 also permits said cork to be forced very tightly into the opening of the bottle neck, thus precluding the possibility of any leakage of liquor therein. The screw stem 12 is passed through the head of the cap 4 and an inter nally tin-ended nut let positioned inside of said head, the fit of the threads on the screw stem in the nut lat being such that said stem will turn freely. After the cap 4; has been positioned as shownin Fig. 1 the cork 8 may be extracted from the neck 2 by simply turning the head 13 a few times in one direction. To insert the cork 8 again in. the bottle opening, a few turns in the other direction of the head 13 will accomplish this result.
From the foregoing construction it is apparent that the cork 8 may be readily inserted in position or extracted without detection, but this removal and displacement of the cork is not sufiicicnt to permit emptying of the bottle or refilling the same. ()bviously other means must be provided. To this end a port 15 is provided in one side of the cap 4 and positioned directly above the top extremity of the neck 2 as illustrated in Fig. 2. p A triangular housing 16 1s formed on this sldc of the cap 1 m such a manner as to cover the port 15, which feature is illustrated in Fig. 3. The metal that is cut away from the side of the cap a to form the port 15 is formed into a curved tongue 17 which forms a. hinged pivot for a. small sheet metal oscillatory lid 18. The lower end of the exterior wall of the housing 16 is provided with a triangular opening 1.9 which leads to atmosphere.
From the above description it is clear that when the bottle 1 is turned on its side so that the housing 19 will be on top of the cap 4. that the lid 18 will fall by gravity and automatically close the port 15 thus precluding the possibility of filling the bottle by pouring liquid into the opening 19. Should this be attempted the housing 16 then would be filled with liquor, passage through the port 15 being absolutely prevented.
The operation for emptying the bottle is as follows: Assuming that the bottle 1' is first in an upright position, .then in order to fill a glass with liquor the neck 2 is turned downwardly so that the housing 16 will be on the under side of the cap 1. Due to the gravity or weight of the lid 18 the same will immediately fall to the dotted line position as shown in Fig. 2, thus permitting the free flow of liquor through the port 15 and thence through the opening 19 into a glass or receptacle for receiving the liquor. Prior to this operation. it is evident that the cork 8 must be extracted from the bottle neck opening. This is accomplished as aforesaid by simply giving the knurled head 13 a few turns in the proper direction.
A non-refillable bottle as set forth is simple of construction and so designed that it can not be refilled with liquor without removing the cap 4, and by doing this detection would be certain since the seal 7 would -necessarily be broken. lVhile" this bottle cannot be refilled, liquor may be conveniently poured from it-at any time with a minimum of trouble.
While I have illustrated and describedthe preferred form of construction for carrying my invention into efiect, this is capable of variation and modification without departing from the spirit of the invention. I, therefore, do not wish to be limited to the precise details of construction set forth, but desire to avail myself of such variations and modifications as come within the scope of the appended claims.
Having described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent isz 1. A non-refillable bottle, a cap secured to the bottle neck and provided with a portat one side; a housing covering said port; a tongue projecting from said cap at the lower edge of said port; and a lid having an opening engaging over said tongue to form a hinged connection, substantially as described.
2. In a non-refillable bottle, a metallic cap secured and sealed to thebottle neck, there being a space intervening between the opening of the bottle neck and the top of said cap, a removable cork provided for the opening of said bottle neck, means mounted in the top of said cap and connected to said being such as to cover said port, said housing being provided with an opening leading to atmosphere in one of the walls thereof, a tongue projecting from said cap at the lower edge of said port, a lid adapted to cover said port provided with an elongatedopeming for the reception of said tongue thus forming a hinged connection, said lid being disposed outside of said port, and means for limiting the oscillationxof said lid, substantially as described. i
3. In a nonrefillable bottle, a metallic cap secured and sealed to the bottle neck, there being a space intervening between the opening of the bottle neck and the top of said cap, a. removable cork provided for the opening of said bottle neck, means mounted in the top of said cap and connected to said cork for removing and inserting the same, there being a port'provided in one side of said cap and disposed above the bottle open-- ing, means arranged diametrically opposite said port for permitting the free ingress and egress of atmospheric air to and from said space, a triangular housing projecting from 'one side of said cap and formed integral therewith, the disposition ofsaid housing being such as to cover said port, said housing being provided with a triangular 0pening leading to atmosphere in one of 'the walls thereof, a curved tongue projecting from said cap at the lower'edge of said port, a lid adapted to covefisaid port provided with an elongated opening forthe reception of said tongue thus forming a hinged connection, said lid being disposed outside of said port, and means for limiting the oscillation of said lid, substantially as described.
