Description

IMPROVE-D SPCOL-THRYEAD CASE.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the saire.
I,`ALB10N PARSONS, of Burlington, iu the county of Des Moines and State of Iowa, have invented cer- Nature and Objects vof the Iittffntioa;
The nature of my invention relates to a case for containing spool-thread; and
The invention consists in a suitable circular or rectangular case, with a door communicating with vthe interior. Within .said case a vertical cylinder or drum is pivoted at its upper and lower ends, the upper pivot extended'through the outer case and provided with a knob, by which it may be rotated. Annular anges extend around the drang-which are curved for the reception of the spools, and strips of metalor other maten'al are placed vertically ou the outer edges of the flanges, ou which the numbers or letters designating certain kinds of thread are placed. A drawer is placed in the lower part of' the case, for convenience in cleaning the case, and for the purpose of receiving any spools, that may happen to fall, the object bein f to provide a convenient case for containing a variety of sizes, colors, and numbers of spool-thread, so construdted and arranged that any size or number may be readily and easily found.
.Description of the Accompanying .Dwz-wings. Figure 1 is a perspective View of my invention, with the door open and the drawer partly withdrawn.
. Figure 2 is a vertical sectional view on the plane of the line x x, g. 1. f Y
Figure 3 is a horizontal section on the plane of the line y y, tig. 1.
General Description. A is thc case.
B, the door.
C, a drawer.
D is the drum or cylinder.
E E E E E E are flanges, encircling the drum.
H HH H, strips, on which the designating numbers o1' letters are placed.
I I, spools of thread.
J J, pivots, on which the drum is rotated, having bearings in the strip L, and in the top of the case A. M is a knob, for rotating the drum D.
'Ihe` operation of my invention is deemedobvious from" the drawings.
The spools are arranged ou the trays formed by thc curved anges E, with the numbers of the thread corresponding with the numbers on the strips H H H H, of which there may be any desired number. By rotating the drum D all the spools and numbers may be readily brought to View, and, by reference to lig. 3, it will b e seen that any spool may be easily taken hold of, as their outer edges are apart.
Should any spool fall. from the trays, it will be caught by the drawer C, which may be withdrawn and the spool replaced.
I am aware of the patent issued to J. N. Leonard, February 14, 1870, N o. 99,920, and do not claim its particular form of construction.
\Vhat I do claim isp The revolving drum D,with curved-shaped flanges E E E E and strips H H H, constructed as described, and combined with the case A, provided with adrawer, C, substantially as and forthe purpose specified.
ALBION PARSONS.
